Royal Richmond Archery Club

Royal Richmond Archery Club Established in 1873, we are foremost a GNAS target archery club, but our members enjoy all styles of archery

Established in 1873, with a mixed membership of all ages from 10 upwards. Foremost, we are a GNAS target archery cub, but incorporate all aspects of archery. Members shoot all bow types at the club; recurve, barebow, compound, longbow and various other traditional bows, shooting distances from 20 yards up to 100 yards. We are fortunate enough to have our own club house and field facilities in Old Deer Park, Richmond. We shoot outdoors throughout the summer season (mid-April to mid-September). During the summer outdoor season, our main club days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, all day Sunday, Saturday morning and certain weekday mornings. During the winter season we have one indoor session a week on a Thursday evening, which is currently held at Orleans Park School, Richmond Road, TW1 3BB. But we also continue to shoot outdoors, mainly on Saturday mornings and Friday evenings (under the floodlights). The club has an active social side and we host various Fun Shoots throughout the year, as well as non shooting events. We have numerous trained coaches and instructors who help our members to achieve the best results possible. If you have any safeguarding questions you can contact us on; [email protected]

We usually hold Beginners’ Courses in the early part of our summer season, following which you may be able to join the club. To find out more about these courses please contact;

If you, or your company are interested in holding a private session for friends or staff to experience the thrill of archery, we can offer a range of bespoke corporate team building / adventure days. If you would like to discuss this further or have a general enquiry, please contact;

We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of our dear friend, fellow archer and County Coach, Steve Patterson.

Steve was one of the longest-serving members of RRAC and made an enormous contribution to our club. He served as Head Coach and Vice President and was a much-loved Honorary Lifetime Member.

Steve was a truly exceptional coach, generously sharing his knowledge and experience with many archers at the club and across Surrey. He gave freely of his time and expertise, and his commitment to helping others was remarkable. He volunteered at the London 2012 Olympic Games, teaching archery, and even learned sign language so that he could help teach deaf people.

Whatever Steve turned his hand to, he gave it 100% and excelled.
His life was filled with many chapters. He played saxophone in the Army band before going on to work at Heathrow. He met his wife, Cis, through playing hockey and was also a regular swimmer.

When Steve found archery, he embraced it wholeheartedly. He became a Level 3 County Coach and competed across recurve, compound and longbow, winning countless competitions along the way. His passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport were infectious.

Steve was also a passionate Brentford supporter, despite being born in the North East of England.

Above all, Steve was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband to Cis, father to Paul and Victoria, and a very proud grandfather to Dexter and Raine. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all of his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

Our club will miss Steve more than words can say. For many of us at RRAC, Steve was synonymous with archery. His knowledge, kindness, patience and generosity touched so many lives, and his contribution to our club and to the sport will never be forgotten.

We are forever grateful to have known such a wonderful man.

Steve’s kindness, wisdom and generous spirit will live on in all those he taught, supported and inspired. He will remain forever in our hearts and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
