Undy Tournament 2026 – Match Reports
The Rockets headed to the Undy Tournament 2026 for the first time and were greeted by glorious sunshine and some very early kick-offs following the presentation evening the night before.
With a different format of 6-a-side and 10-minute games, the girls had to adapt quickly, but they did exactly that and produced a fantastic day of football.
Game 1 – Rockets vs Treharris
The girls started brightly with battles taking place all over the pitch. Alexia was called into action early and produced some excellent saves to keep the Rockets in the game.
Unfortunately, two goals found their way through and the Rockets opened the tournament with a defeat. Ellie was deployed in a defensive role and seemed determined to make her presence known, managing to find the ball with her hand on more than one occasion. We’re still waiting to find out whether she’s secretly training to be a goalkeeper!
Result: Rockets 0-2 Treharris
Game 2 – Rockets vs Ashton Keynes Badgers
The Rockets showed great character after the opening defeat and battled throughout. Sienna took on a new role as lead striker while Frankie slotted into central midfield to add some physicality and energy.
Ellie once again lined up in defence and, true to form, appeared to think handball was a team objective rather than a rule to avoid!
The breakthrough finally arrived late in the game when Sienna showed tremendous bravery to finish from close range and secure the Rockets’ first victory of the day.
Result: Rockets 1-0 Ashton Keynes Badgers
Goal: Sienna
Game 3 – Rockets vs Thornbury
This was undoubtedly the Rockets’ best performance of the day so far.
Poppy stepped into goal while Hope seemed determined to cover every blade of grass on the pitch. After falling behind, the Rockets showed tremendous resilience. Hope grabbed two excellent goals while Frankie also got herself on the scoresheet.
The girls played some excellent football and thoroughly deserved their comeback victory.
Result: Rockets 3-1 Thornbury
Goals: Hope (2), Frankie
Game 4 – Rockets vs Chepstow
Facing the winners of League 2 from last season was always going to be a huge challenge.
Both teams produced an excellent contest. Alexia once again made several outstanding saves while the Rockets continued to look dangerous going forward. Esmai was incredibly consistent throughout, and Shaylah caused problems whenever she got on the ball.
The game ended goalless but was a fantastic watch and showed just how competitive the Rockets could be against strong opposition.
Result: Rockets 0-0 Chepstow
Game 5 – Rockets vs Ponthir Blues
Another excellent game saw the Rockets fall behind and face another test of character.
The equaliser came in spectacular fashion when Lacey unleashed a long-range effort that the goalkeeper could only help into her own net. Lacey’s reaction said it all as she celebrated wildly!
The Rockets weren’t finished there. Sienna returned to the striker role and found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Showing incredible composure, she delicately chipped the keeper to earn the Rockets a deserved point.
Result: Rockets 2-2 Ponthir Blues
Goals: Lacey, Sienna
Quarter Final Qualification
After the group stages came the anxious wait.
The Rockets finished with a very respectable 8 points, leaving qualification hanging in the balance. Thanks to other results and a positive goal difference of +1, the girls secured a place in the quarter-finals.
That goal difference was particularly pleasing and reflected the outstanding defensive work shown by the entire squad throughout the day.
Quarter Final – Rockets vs Ponthir Stars
The quarter-final paired the Rockets against the runners-up of League 1 last season, meaning every tackle, every challenge and every loose ball mattered.
The girls rose to the occasion magnificently.
Alexia was outstanding once again, producing a string of low saves and commanding her area brilliantly. The Rockets came agonisingly close to taking the lead when Hope spotted the goalkeeper off her line and tried an ambitious effort from distance that narrowly failed to beat both the keeper and the crossbar.
Frankie then rattled the post as the Rockets pushed for the breakthrough.
The crowd created a fantastic atmosphere and it was everything a quarter-final should be. Sadly, with just 60 seconds remaining, Ponthir found a late goal to sn**ch the victory.
The result was heartbreaking, but the performance was one every Rocket should be proud of.
Result: Rockets 0-1 Ponthir Stars
