🌞 HOT WEATHER ADVISORY – Let’s Keep Our Riders Safe This Weekend 🌞
With temperatures set to be high this weekend, we’d like to ask all parents, guardians and riders to start preparing now, not just on race day.
Hydration starts 24-48 hours before an event, so please encourage your child to drink plenty of water in the lead-up to the weekend. Turning up already dehydrated can have a significant impact on performance, concentration and, most importantly, their health.
💧 Top tips for the weekend:
• Start increasing water intake from today.
• Avoid lots of fizzy drinks and energy drinks before racing.
• Bring plenty of water and electrolyte drinks to the event.
• Encourage your rider to drink little and often throughout the day rather than waiting until they feel thirsty.
• Eat regular meals and snacks containing carbohydrates and a little salt to help maintain hydration.
• Keep riders in the shade whenever possible - bring gazebos etc.
• Use hats, sunscreen and lightweight clothing when they’re not riding.
• Bring a cooling towel or portable fan if you have one.
🚨 Watch out for signs of heat exhaustion:
* Dizziness or headache
* Feeling sick
* Excessive tiredness
* Muscle cramps
* Confusion or unusual behaviour
* Pale, clammy skin despite the heat
If your child experiences any of these symptoms, stop riding immediately, move them into the shade, cool them down and seek assistance from event officials or medical staff.
Our priority is making sure every rider has a fantastic day and gets home safely. Looking after hydration and keeping cool will make a huge difference to both performance and wellbeing.
We look forward to seeing you all this weekend. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the racing! 🏁💙
