4 exercises. 1 bench. 0 wasted reps. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Building strength isn't just about adding weight.

Today's combo:

โœ… Single Arm Row โ€“ 8 reps each side
โœ… Deep Dumbbell Chest Press โ€“ opening the chest and working through a full range
โœ… Reverse Fly โ€“ targeting the rear delts and upper back
โœ… Chest Fly โ€“ focusing on squeezing and engaging the chest throughout

The weights on the flys might look light but when you control the tempo, maximise the stretch and focus on the contraction, they start feeling heavy remarkably quickly. It's not always about lifting heavier; sometimes it's about effectively challenging the muscles you're trying to train.

Most people think acid reflux or heartburn automatically means too much stomach acid. But sometimesโ€ฆ the opposite may be true.

Low stomach acid can lead to poor protein breakdown, slower digestion, bloating, fullness after meals and even reflux symptoms in some individuals - often called the "๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ-๐š๐œ๐ข๐ ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐š๐๐จ๐ฑ".

That's where Betaine HCl comes into the conversation.

Betaine HCl is used to support healthy stomach acid levels and digestion, particularly with high-protein meals. Many formulas also include Pepsin, a digestive enzyme that helps break down protein more efficiently.

Supplements like Betaine HCl can be a useful tool, but they work best when combined with foundational habits that support your digestive system naturally.

If you regularly experience:

โ€ข Bloating after meals
โ€ข Heaviness or sluggish digestion
โ€ข Reflux symptoms
โ€ข Excessive fullness after eating
โ€ข Difficulty digesting high-protein meals

โ€ฆit may be worth considering and discussing with a qualified professional.

The goal isn't to rely on supplements long-term - it's to support your body while building strong daily habits: Thorough chewing, proper hydration, digestive enzymes when needed, fermented foods for gut health, regular exercise and movement, stress management and consistent nutrition.

As always: educate yourself, listen to your body, assess your individual needs and consult a professional before starting, especially if you have ulcers, diagnosed GERD or take medication.

We often treat our health like something that will always be there.
Something we can come back to later.
Something we'll prioritise when life "slows down".

But the truth is, it doesn't work like that.

Your health is not a short-term goal. It's not a phase. It's not something you fix once and forget.

It's a lifelong responsibility; a daily practice of choosing yourself again and again.

It's the energy you wake up with.
The clarity you think with.
The strength you move through life with.
The foundation beneath everything you're trying to build.

And, like anything that matters, it requires consistent care.

Not perfection.
Not extremes.
Just the discipline to keep showing up for yourself - even in small ways - day after day.

No-one else can do it for you. No-one else can maintain it for you.

This is yours.

So, take ownership. Protect it. Invest in it. Nourish it. Move it. Rest it. Respect it.

Because when you invest in your health, you're not just adding years to your life - you're adding life to your years.

Early '90s throwback! ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ตโš”๏ธ๐Ÿคผ

In my small Irish village, where opportunities were scarce and the path to self-destruction seemed all too easy, I made a pivotal choice to reshape my mindset and reclaim my life. Turning to martial arts, specifically Japanese Jiu Jitsu after starting with Judo, gave me a powerful outlet to channel my energy and focus my mind. This shift wasn't just about physical discipline; it was a mental transformation, redirecting my perspective from aimlessness to purpose, and setting me on a positive path forward.

Upon leaving Ireland to build a career and new life in England, I set JJJ aside but found a new outlet in the gym, surrounded by weights. What began as a release from the stresses of corporate life soon evolved into my true vocation, as weightlifting became a cornerstone of my identity and purpose, guiding me forward.

Try and pick me out in this very old photo!
