Post by a student 🙏🥋🔥🔥🥇 So today it has been one year since my accident and what a year it has been.
1 year ago today I lay on the pavement, scared that I would not be able to walk, to finally being carted through more machines than I knew existed.
From sleeping on the sofa because my back couldn't handle a bed, not being able to pick Leo up. Sedentary for so long a piling on the kilos to being the biggest I have ever been in my life!!!!
To Carl Medlin getting into the gym, doing exercise and starting to be healthy again. Going from not being able to pick up a 1 year old, to squatting 100kg, a weight that felt heavier than any I'd ever lifted before! This took months but it got me moving and it got my back stronger.
Then in April I joined ACTJJ Brazilian Jiujitusu UK and from day one being humbled as to just how far I was still yet to come. Though with the help of Junior and all the amazing training partners there. I went from someone strong, who couldn't walk up a set of stairs. To being able to chase Leo around play centers and not only compete in competitions but walk home with now 4 gold medals.
And in the last month sorting out my eating I'm 20kg down, still so far to go, though it may have taken a massive health set back but I feel like I have, with the help of everyone around me, been able to acheive more in the last year health wise than in the last 10.
Occasionally I am reminded that my back now has some painful memories, though what I have dragged it through this last year. A little stiffness and pain is nothing, and now has nothing over me but to remind me just how far I have come.
And that is just the beginning I can't wait to see what the future brings. What a year it has been, and this is only one part of all the stuff that has changed for the better think I'll have to do a couple more for everything else :)
