From humble origins in East Sussex in the early 1900s to worldwide accolades, the Newbery heritage combines tradition, legends, innovation, and master craftsmanship. The Newbery story begins with Len Newbery, a highly skilled bat-maker and master craftsman who passed down his legacy to his son, John Newbery. John carried on this tradition with great success, founding John Newbery Ltd in 1981. Known for innovative and experimental bat designs, John introduced the steel spring handle, a significant cricket bat innovation at the time.
