Different style post from me today! Not used to talking to my camera in my car. I’ve had a few moms and dads mention to me that before working with me they would stay at home and just hide away and isolate themselves, and that they wished they smear started sooner on their fitness journey. Starting your own journey doesn’t have to be stepping in a gym or doing a home workout right away, it can be just getting outside on a walk for 20 minutes, that is all you need, the benefits of getting fresh air and steps are endless! Nobody tells you that the hardest part of having a baby is remembering you still exist.

Everyone’s asking about the baby. How’s the baby sleeping. How’s the baby eating. And you love it of course you do. But somewhere in the middle of all of it, you stop asking how you’re doing.

I trained less. Stopped eating well. Stopped doing the things that made me feel like me. Told myself it was temporary.

Six months later I realised temporary had just become my life.

Getting back into it wasn’t about how I looked. It was about having enough energy to actually show up. For mornings like this. For him.

If you’re a new parent reading this at 11pm while the baby finally sleeps you haven’t lost yourself. You’ve just been last on the list for too long.
You don’t need hours.

You don’t need a gym. You just need a plan that actually fits your life.

Here’s the caption ready to go:

It’s a bank holiday. The gym’s shut. The baby’s awake. Let’s train.

Bank holiday legs session baby included. 👶🦵

The formula: 30 seconds on each. One minute rest after all 5 are done. Repeat for as many rounds as your day allows.

1. RDLs
Support baby’s neck on this one. Hinge from the hips not the lower back. Push your bum back like you’re closing a car door with it. Soft bend in the knees, feel it in your hamstrings.

2. Baby squats
Hold them close to your chest. Sit down between your heels, chest tall, knees tracking over your toes.

3. Forward lunges
Step forward, drop the back knee toward the floor, drive through the front heel to stand back up.

4. Standing calf raises
Up onto the balls of your feet, squeeze hard at the top, slow on the way down.

5. Backwards lunges
Same idea as the forward lunge, but you’re stepping back instead of forward. Easier on the knees and brilliant if forward lunges flare anything up a great swap for postnatal mums still building back strength.

Quick. Effective. Baby gets cuddles. You get a leg pump. Sorted.

If I had a 6 month old again, here’s exactly what I’d do 👇

1. Train for 20 minutes, not 2 hours
That’s all it takes. I’d stop waiting for a window that doesn’t exist and just use the one I had.

2. Use my baby as the weight
They’re getting heavier every week anyway. Best piece of kit I’ve ever used and they love it.

3. Do something for myself without the guilt
A parent running on empty helps nobody. Showing up for yourself IS showing up for them.

4. Track what I’m eating, loosely
Not a diet. Just enough awareness to stop the 2am biscuit tin becoming a habit.

5. Accept the new routine instead of mourning the old one.
The life that old training schedule was built around doesn’t exist anymore. The sooner I’d made peace with that, the sooner I’d have moved forward.
My son is one now and these are still the things that keep me going.
