Variety: Unlike the gym, hiking offers a VARIETY of terrain and scenery to explore. You can CHOOSE from easy, moderate, or challenging trails, and EXPERIENCE different types of LANDSCAPES, from forests to mountains to beaches.

For some people, the gym can be a DAUNTING place. Maybe you feel this way, or your friends/family do, so they won't join you.

THE SOLUTION - get your %ss outdoors 🌳🚢

We've already discussed benefits such as connecting with nature and joint health for hiking (check those posts out from the past few days!)

REASON #3
Full-body workout: Hiking involves walking uphill, downhill, and on uneven terrain, which engages your ENTIRE BODY. You'll work your LEGS, CORE, and UPPER BODY muscles as you navigate the trails - especially if you've got a backpack with you! (Which you definitely should).

Low-impact exercise: Hiking is a LOW-IMPACT exercise that is easier on your JOINTS than high-impact activities like running or jumping (ehh, so much effort). This makes it a great option for those who are RECOVERING from an INJURY or have joint pain.

Improving your fitness doesn't have to revolve around mind-numbing treadmill running, getting shouted at in a class, or clanging weights around!

Hiking is a great alternative to gym workouts for you to improve your fitness while enjoying the great outdoors. Additionally, it can compliment your gym routine by incorporating 1-3 gym sessions per week, while reserving the rest of your physical activities for tackling trails.

It is a low-impact exercise that can help build strength, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness.
