The complexity of your pain šŸ‘†šŸ¼

Almost every week I coach someone or multiple people experiencing some sort of pain

Most of the time having already been on Dr.Google to diagnose themselves with some sort of issue

ā€œIt’s a trapped nerve hereā€

ā€œThis tiny muscle is inflamedā€

ā€œIt sounds like a bulged discā€

But, despite what Dr.Google says, it’s simply not that simple when it comes to pain.

Pain is so complex, that most of the time you can’t pin it down to a root cause.

The Biopsychosocial model (the above image) demonstrates that there are various components of the human experience that are inseparable.

Meaning they cannot simply be reduced to bio mechanical factors.

So narrowing it down to a single cause, within a complex system, of multi factorial experiences doesn’t make sense

Can we identify key contributors and use those for positive change? Yes

But that doesn’t make the cause of the issue any less multi factorial.

Your whole body is connected through thoughts, beliefs, your environment, the other people in your life, your work and more…

The holistic approach to something like back pain isn’t just low level corrective exercises or rehab exercises,

You’ve gotta look at the bigger picture of what’s going on in your life and your current experience of it.

Sleep, stress, nutrition etc…

Because it all contributes.

There isn’t a root cause, everything’s connected and will effect how you experience pain, the severity of pain and the recovery from it.

This goes for your levels of performance too, whether that be at the gym or work.

When clients come to me in regards to pain,

I adjust accordingly based off my experiences in the past with other clients that have overcome pain as a barrier to training,

But also help navigate what other contributors may be playing a role within the experience and the recovery journey.

Comparison isn’t always the thief of joy…

From personal experience,

Out of the 3 gyms I’ve worked at, I haven’t had the best physique, I haven’t been the strongest and I haven’t been the fittest.

And I’ve ALWAYS compared myself to those that are in better shape, stronger and fitter.

But it’s never been a negative thing.

It’s motivating.

When I see someone hit a PB that’s much heavier than I am capable of, it makes me want to become stronger,

It doesn’t make me feel weak.

When I see someone perform a feat of fitness, like smashing a PB 5K run time, or a fitness event for example,

It makes me want to become fitter.

It doesn’t make me feel unfit.

I train each day to be fitter and stronger next year, than I am today.

Not fitter and stronger than the next person.

But those around me and the people I choose to follow on social media,

That I do compare myself to,

Help motivate me to keep pushing towards that self improvement in the areas that I care about.

So, DO compare yourself.

But don’t put yourself down when you do.

Let it help you to reflect on what it is you’d like to improve on and how those improvements you’d like to make, will positively impact your life.

ā€œI just don’t have time to train.ā€

If you have time to read this post, you probably have time to invest back into your health and fitness.

And this post likely isn’t the only post you’ll see and read as you doom scroll through Instagram, bored or killing time.

For most people, life is busier than ever, we get it.

But with the average user spending 143 minutes per DAY (1001 minutes per week 🄲) on social media,

I can’t help but think the majority of people could use that time more wisely.

Like getting stronger, building some muscle and improving their fitness,

which will all lead to a higher quality of life and potentially longer life too.

I want to help you prioritise things that will benefit your life and well being.

Out of those 1001 minutes per week on social media, all I’d like you to start with is 120-180 of them šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

That’s 2-3 workouts per week,

Becoming stronger,

Fitter,

Building muscle,

Becoming more resilient to injuries

And

Improving the quality of your life

Then once you’ve made 2-3 workouts a week a habit and integrated them into your weekly routine,

you can start to work on building that up to 3-5 a week.

If you feel like you could benefit from 1-1 coaching to do so,

You don’t even have to do that in person,

We can work together online too šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

Fresh off of the personal training course production line.

When my hair wasn’t so thin and my lower body couldn’t fill out a medium size pair of shorts šŸ˜…

(Still barely can 🄲)

5 years since I started personal training, which is pretty decent considering the average time a PT to be in the industry for, is quite a bit less than 1 year 😬

5 years later I barely use what I learned on that PT course, because it was so easy and the standards to become a PT are so low.

But there has been plenty of
courses, workshops and experiences a long the way that have gone into my current tool kit, to help you to achieve your goals.

I can’t remember the direction of blood flow through your heart,

But I can for damn sure get you stronger, fitter and coach you through exercises that you can actually benefit from.

All it takes is for you to slide into my DMs with your goals and I’ll get you there

What to do if you DO want to see progress?

Invest in yourself

Save yourself from overthinking what you need to do in the gym and with your nutrition

Spare yourself from the bull šŸ’© misinformation spread on social media

By dropping me a DM briefly outlining your goals

And I’ll get back to you asap to discuss them further

Even if you don’t hire me

I’m sure I can help with some guidance

Yes,

You could probably do anything active to move out of that statistic

And whatever you choose would help you live a little longer.

But I’d like to help you with the quality of the physical activity too

As well as add purpose and intent behind it.

I want to help you get stronger

Because a strong body is a robust body.

I want to help you build some muscle

Because more muscle mass carried is a contributor to long term health and life span.

And you’ll look great on holiday too.

I want to help improve your cardio.

Because this is also a direct link to long term health and longevity.

And it’s never a nice feeling, feeling out of breath climbing the stairs or playing with your kids.

I want to help you avoid being part of that statistic,

Reap the benefits of becoming stronger, fitter and build some muscle,

Whilst also improving your chances of a longer life

And a better quality of life as you get older too šŸ§“šŸ¼šŸ‘µšŸ¼

It all starts with a DM outlining your goals briefly and why you feel like I can help you

And I’ll get back you asap to discuss your goals and how I can help

For the majority of the few months it took for this previous client to lose over a stone,

She was on 1 session per week with me

And rarely went to the gym outside of our sessions.

She wasn’t on poverty calories to lose the weight.

It was a sensible deficit,

Of 20% off of her maintenance calories

And a goal of hitting 6,000+ steps per day.

Full time job,

Young child,

Busy social life,

Stressed planning a wedding,

Hated the gym,

Still lost over a stone.

It didn’t take over her life losing the weight,

She didn’t over restrict,

And she didn’t train like a mad woman 5,6,7 days per week.

But still got stronger,

fitter,

felt the mental health benefits,

And felt happier in her own skin.

When you come to me for help,

I don’t ask much from you.

I just ask for effort and honest communication about your struggles.

And I’ll provide the minimal effective dose to help you achieve your goals,

Without it taking over your life.

Looking for similar help?

Drop me a DM outlining your goals and why you think you need help with them,

And I’ll get back you asap to discuss them further with you
