Barbell squats are back in the rotation
When I first started training, squats were non negotiable. Three times a week, every week, for the best part of two years.
I worked my way from a wobbly 80kg squat to deep sets with 180kg and learned one of the most important principles of building muscleโฆ progressive overload.
I still remember the nerves before those sessions. Once the bar was unracked, you had to be fully switched on or you were blowing out a kneecapโฆ or your pants.
Looking back, a lot of my leg development came from simply getting stronger. No fancy techniques, no shortcuts, just years of adding weight to the bar and earning every rep.
Build strength and the muscle usually follows!
