There are so many opportunities for young people across Redcar & Cleveland to get involved in sport. ๐ฅโฝ๐๐๐โโ๏ธ
These are just the boxing clubs available across the area, they missed out Priory ABC in Guisborough and Grangetown Amateur boxing club.
Sport can give young people so much: discipline, confidence, friendships, structure, something to work towards and, most importantly, a place where they feel they belong.
But in my experience, getting involved is only the first step.
There will always be days when a young person doesn't want to go. Theyโd rather stay at home or do something else. This is where parents play a huge role. Encouraging them (in some cases forcing them) to keep turning up and teaching them that commitment means sticking with something even when you don't feel like it.
You don't have to be the best. You don't even have to love every session. But you do have to keep showing up.
Give them the opportunity. Find something they enjoy. Then help them stick with it.
There are plenty of positive places for our young people to belong. Help them find something theyโre passionate about๐ฅ
๐ฅ HELP US PROTECT THE NEXT GENERATION ๐ฅ
We are seeing far too much tragedy, anti-social behaviour and gang violence in our communities.
As parents, guides and role models, we are seeing a generation of young people who are struggling and, all too often, being tempted towards risk, crime and worse.
It is our job to protect them.
We have to be more demanding about how our young people spend their time โ even when we face resistance and pushback.
I don't buy into the idea that society is failing our young people because there is โnothing to doโ.
THERE IS PLENTY ON OFFER.
We just need to encourage our youngsters to get involved.
Boxing has always carried a stigma in some circles, but there is no denying the huge benefits the sport can bring to young people and communities.
๐ฅ Boxing can help to:
โข Reduce anti-social behaviour among those who take up the sport
โข Reduce involvement in violence and crime
โข Build confidence, discipline and resilience
โข Teach responsibility and self-control
โข Develop respect โ both for themselves and for others
โข Give young people structure, purpose and positive role models
Help our youngsters. Get them involved. Let's not lose the next generation.
There are so many boxing clubs and community organisations doing incredible work โ often for nothing more than the love of the sport and the desire to make a difference.
Support the clubs that want to make a difference.
Give them the opportunity to guide, challenge and help shape your young people into confident, respectful and disciplined adults.
You are not alone.
Let's work together to protect our young people and give them something positive to belong to. ๐ฅ
