May is Water Safety Month, and each Wednesday this month we’ll be sharing simple water safety tips to help keep our community safer in and around the water. Living in the Lake Region means water is a big part of summer—and water safety is a life skill.
Water Safety Tip #1: Be Seen. Be Safe. Choose Bright Swimwear!
Not all swimsuit colors are created equal when it comes to water safety. Bright, high-visibility colors like neon orange, yellow, pink, and green are much easier for lifeguards and caregivers to spot in the water—especially in deeper water, shadows, or busy swim areas.
Blue, gray, and darker-colored swimsuits can blend into the water and make it harder to see a swimmer quickly.
A cute suit is great. A visible suit is better. Your lifeguard’s eyeballs will thank you.
Swimming is an essential life skill, and lessons can make all the difference in building confidence, skills, and safety in the water. Bridgton Recreation offers swim lessons for all ages and abilities—from Baby & Me and preschool lessons to Levels 1–6, Junior Lifeguard, and Adult Swim.
