Our first home grown Shodan. Kacper Hertel is the most deserving student for this accolade, mostly due to his committment. A great all round Karate talent who was graded by a panel of highly distinguished Jindokai masters including 10nth Dan, Stephen Chan, head of the International organisation. A Special thank you to our senior adult student Ken and Son Taylor who are both brown belts in their own right and the Yeltuh family for cheering them on. Congratulations Kacper! Now the Journey begins with many different roads ahead. How blessed you are. 🥋

Expanding/cementing positive synapse connection within the brain. When performing combination line movements, this is whats happening, not necessarily the improvement of praftical self defence technique although it certainly compliments it.

Modern Karate is seen as stand up striking, and people who say that, wouldn't be wrong. Traditionally rooted Karate however is taking advantage of your opponent with positioning and grip (holding onto) and ending the Kumite (grappling hands) quickly. So when you see a traditional Karate 'punch' you are only seeing half the picture, the punching motion when used in line work or kihon is more likely to be used to push an opponent in order to throw them with the other hand pulling or keeping control of another body part whilst doing so.
There are many applications to Kata (Karate Patterns), here you see Obi and Nkem mid flow through our Kata 5 (Pinan Nidan) but applying what it may look like through a self defence situation rather than a solo Kata performance. Notice the holding and potential further position and manipulation opportunities.

Family Karate + Kazoku Renshin (Family Unity) finds its foundation in the style of Shorin Ryu.

Shorin-ryū (少林流) is a Japanese word that translates to "school of a small forest" or "school of a small tree". It's the name of a traditional Okinawan style of karate that combines elements of Shuri-te, Chinese kung fu, and other martial arts.

A Karate school in Ramsgate, Kent, UK. We have a focus on self defence (kata application) with the caviat that hurting someone to defend yourself in majority should be the last option, notwithstanding pre emptive striking as a result of dynamic risk assessments of impact factors displayed by any approaching threat.

Here are some of my students having passed their recent grading. I love them all so very much, every one of them offering something different and positive in the name of Karate.

Travelled to our Honbu Dojo today with our 3 brown belts to train under the instruction of our 10th degree Head of the international Jindokai Karate organisation, Stephen Chan. It was a great honour and a surprise for us all as Nkem and Obi (pictured front) were promoted by Mr Chan to 1st Kyu. Next year all three of these students will have achieved their first level black belt. A testament to their dedication. (Something I didn't have when I was their age)
