Launched in 2010, Thanet Athletics Club has quickly become a well-known club within Kent, offering training to compete in sports-hall, track and field and cross country competitions! The club is based at the Royal Harbour Academy, offering training for all abilities age 7 and above.

As a club with athletes ranging in both abilities and age, we aim to compete in various leagues and individual competitions including the Kent Young Athletes League, Southern Athletics League, County Championships and many others. Follow us on social media, to keep up with the latest news, results and events!

Since COVID-19, we have worked hard as a club to try and ensure the correct measures are taken to allow safe training. For this reason, we ask that all athletes now using the booking system on the website before coming to training to allow coaches to be prepared for the number of athletes training.

Bella & Amber smash it in Tonbridge

Bella Winfield and Amber Jackson competed in the U14 Kent Combined Events Championships in Tonbridge and the girls did themselves proud.

Bella started off with a personal best in the 75m hurdles with time of 13.22s into a big headwind. Next up was the high jump where because of the large field of athletes each competitor was only allowed 7 attempts, so for Bella to achieve a personal best of 1m33 was very good. Shot Putt was event number 3 and a distance of 5m27 kept her in the leading group of athletes. Long jump was the 4th event of the day and another personal best of 3m94 on her final round saw her set up for the 600m to end the day. Bella completed her Pentathlon with a superb time of 1min52.79 to give her 6th place and a points score of 2084pts, which was 576pts more than she scored at this event last season.

Amber also had a brilliant day with a massive personal best in the 75m hurdles also into a big headwind with a time of 16.30s. Her high jump was a solid effort of 1m12 before moving on to the shot putt where a new personal best of 5m58 was found in a consistent series of throws. Amber then gave a superb effort of 3m36 in the long jump before going to the 600m where she surprised herself with a magnificent run of 2mins22.06. This gave Amber an overall score of 1102pts which was 447pts more than she achieved at this event last season.

Coach Darren Hatton said “These girls performed brilliantly today setting personal bests galore to achieve huge overall points personal bests too. Combined events is such a hard day to string all of the events together, but these girls did the club proud!”.

Sunday 23rd August saw six of Thanet AC's talented youngsters compete in the u12 KYAL at Tonbridge. With near perfect weather for athletics, it was an excellent showing from Thanet AC’s youngest T&F team.
Cooper jumped his way into 1st place with 3m76 in the Long Jump. In the girls High Jump, Chloe and Ellie Although nervy, managed to make 1m16 and 1m15 respectively. Gideon threw the javelin out to 20m29 which placed him second.
The first of the track events saw Edward and Ellie take on the Hurdles. Maintaining a good rhythm and hurdling with good technique - as coached by u12s coach Darren on Fridays. Edward placed first in 16.s and Ellie second in 15.7s. Alice, had the quest of competing in 3 events in the space of an hour. After completing the 75m 3rd, 11.6s alongside Chloe 3rd, 12.4s, she competed in the Javelin (2nd, 13m00) and just made it to the Long Jump to improve with every jump, placing 2nd in 3m08. Cooper took to the track to dash along the same distance, recording 11.5s and placing 2nd.
IGideon had two very good throws in the discus (2nd, 16m63) and Edward continued his positive response by jumping into first place with 1m05 in the High Jump .
The final events were back on the track with Ellie, Kyan (A), Cooper (B) and Gideon (NS) all taking on the longest distance of the day, the 600m. A tough race to judge, Ellie paced herself well and remained strong throughout, finishing in a good 4th place in 2min 11secs. In the boys 600m, Thanet were joined by an athlete from the White Cliffs squad, Kyan. Pacing themselves well, the boys were together through 200m. As the pace picked up, Kyan (A, 2nd, 1min 53sec) pushed hard and finished close to the leaders, with Gideon (NS, 2min 04sec) pipping Cooper (B, 3rd, 2:2min 07sec) to the line.
After a short rest Kyan joined Chloe for the 150m. Both listened to the coaching well and finished with strong performances. Kyan was 3rd in 24.0s, while Chloe was 5th in 25 in 25.05sec.
The day concluded with the boys winning the 4 x 100m in a time of 62.2sec. Coach Darren, would be very proud of those change overs.
It was a great day of athletics and our young athletes can be incredibly proud. The team spirit was wonderful and a huge thank you must go to the parents and carers for their dedication and support.

In July, Isabella Wilson represented Thanat AC at the National Championships in Bedford.

This was Bella’s first time competing at this level and smashed the qualification standard by 2m to be entered for this event

Bella is the 3rd Thanet thrower to complete at a National champs in 2 years (Amelia Lawton and Adrianna Pepin competing last year)

Bella finished 8th with a distance of 39.58 after a competition of consistent throws (all throws 30+)

Competing against the best in the UK is always a challenge but Bella stepped up and met that challenge 💪🏼

Well Done Bella!!

“Bella’s outstanding achievement is a great example of effort, dedication and talent taking her to a national platform. She joins other athletes that Thanet AC have coached to release their potential- with more to come ! If you’d like to be like Bella come and join us.
