Thanet Archery Club has been giving the people of Thanet the opportunity to partake in the sport of Archery for over 70 years. In those 70 years, the club has moved about the area shooting in Cliffsend, Broadstairs, Birchington-on-Sea, St Lawrence College and now Manston Airport, Ramsgate. During this time the membership has fluctuated but recently the membership has grown and the club is flourish
ing including a strong junior membership who are eager to learn and get themselves involved. The club runs a myriad of novelty, internal, open and inter-club competitions and have, in the past, hosted county and UK record status shoots. Thanet Archery Club offers the opportunity to try target, clout and field archery and welcomes archers both new or experienced with a chance to learn techniques on how to use a variety of bows such as the Longbow, Recurve and even Compound bow depending on the archer’s preference. The club caters for a variety of ages and abilities with the starting age for members being ten and above, this has in turn been the starting point for several county target archers and even National and International level archers. During the clubs existence it has catered for disabled archers, people with learning difficulties and sight impaired archers. We have links with TADSAD Archery (Thanet and District Sports Association for the Disabled) with a number of our members also members or volunteer helpers at TADSAD. In September 2021 we ended our affiliation to Archery GB, though any member of Archery GB, National Field Archery Society or the British Longbow Society may shoot at the club as they will be covered by our own insurance.
