I've been doing a lot more lift, push, pull and squat these last few months, results are coming along nicely. However, like for most people who partiucipate in sports/exercise, niggles and injuries can be a part of the process. So when I thought I had avoided any serious mischief doing deadlifts & RDL's last week I naturally thought I'm just invincible!!
On Sunday however, a debilitating hip/glute problem struck me and I could barely walk properly. By Monday morning, the pain was unbearable. I could not lift my leg without grabbing it!!
In my suffering and general whinging about it, I was politely reminded of what I would recommend to someone in the same situation (to come and see me obviously!!) and get some release and recovery started asap.
With that I got booked in for a double up session. The first with what I now firmly believe to be the next best option to myself in town, Dan Richmond ;)
Knowing I was in considerable distress with it, Dan went through thorough assesment protocols and whilst appreciating the infancy of the injury, also deemed it worth the application of therapy there and then. We also both knew he couldn't hide what was coming next from me and I couldn't hide from it!! It was the brutal experience I expected, but equally, so was the outcome.
Range of motion had improved, pain had reduced and weight bearing more bearable. Richmond Performance & Massage will be getting 5 stars from me and top up visits as I pursue more goal specific lifting and fitness goals. Cheers mate, highly knowledgeable and sharp elbows!!
My second stint of the day was with Tracy Lee of Chempaka Inner Sanctuary who did a posterior chain flush and deload session - I almost fell asleep despite a few brushes over the hot spot areas in hip and glute again. Now whilst not targeted therapy for the injury, it highlighted much of how my training, the injury and my stress have manifested in the body. Shoulders jammed up, neck and atlas point tight, QL in spasm, pelvic tilt and confirmation that my body needs to vent!!
I thought weights and going heavy was the only way for me to do that, but I ackowledge that the good mobility I already have, I need to work on to sustain and improve furthermore. And as for destressing, this was just the ticket. Another 5 star recommendation.
Today, after doing several mobility drills and getting up and about, things are freeing up. The areas where trigger point and fascia release was pin pointed, tender now to say the least and actually becoming the pain reference points in my body. Which is good. It means the main injury is healing and improving while the soft tissue and superficial pains are hopefully all I have to deal with.
Thank you to both these experts for doing what they do so very well - might even get to play rugby by the weekend!! 😲👀
