MG Hard bat competition results held 18th June
Thank you to the 19 entrants that mad up 4 groups, seeds 1. Romford champion Tony Hallett, 2. Prolific hb winner Bruce Kettle, 3. Ian Wall, 4. Young pretender Wilson Hunt.
Group 1- no. 1 seed Tony H didn’t have it all his own way losing first 15/14 to Mossford Yovko who took 1st place and Tony H in 2nd.
Group 2. Bruce won all 4 to win group but tight first game v Samson to win 15/13. Samson comfortably won his other games to take 2nd.
Group 3. Ian kicked off with a tight 15/14 win over Moses and only lost 15/14 to Tony B. Who managed to nick 2nd place in a 3 way tie on count back.
Group 4. Wilson won group with 2 plus 1 close win against an ex player of Romford and particularly HB
Oliver Oxland 15/14 to take 2nd.
Tony H’s slip up in the group pitched him against Bruce and what a match it was worthy if any final with Bruce attacking and Tony retrieving, with scores 15/9, 13/15, 15/13 to Bruce.
Yovko played unseeded Samson who hits the ball ridiculously hard but Samson was just too strong 15/7, 15/10.
Young Wilson took on the organiser Tony B and had the cheek to batter him 15/5, 15/7.
Final qf saw Ian take on Oliver and with a very steady games from both Ian came through 15/9, 15/13.
SF 1. Samson continued to bash the ball against a smooth controlled Wilson but the aggresive tactic won in the end 15/8, 15/13.
SF2. Bruce continued with him comfortable backhand and forehand attacking whilst Ian defended very well didnt have the killer shots, Bruce into another final 15/12, 15/9.
Final Bruce v Samson
Well a mixed game with both attacking players and Samson bashed the first few balls and withing a couple if minutes was 7-1 up but Bruce has been there many times before and dug deep to hold off to many more points from Samson to win 1st 15/10, 2nd game Samson coukdnt keep up the fierce attack and Bruce did what he does to taje the 2nd 15/9.
Congratulations to both players for reaching the final and Bruce wins yet another HB trophy 👏👏
