5 day trip to Ireland šŸ‡®šŸ‡Ŗ

I spent some time here with family when I was younger, and Ireland has always reminded me of my Mum ā¤ļø What a trip it was to come back, revisit old memories and spend some time with family there again.

Don’t tell yourself you’ll start making changes when the time is right. Often, the time never feels right.

In my opinion, there are only a few genuine times in life where it might not be the right time to start. Things like going through a serious illness, a bereavement, a serious family situation or being in the middle of moving house might genuinely mean your priorities need to be elsewhere for a little while.

But work being consistently busy, having a holiday booked a few months away, your car breaking down, or life just feeling a bit hectic isn’t one of them.

Often there is no perfect time to start. And if you wait for that perfect time, what happens when something comes up during the journey?

If your mindset is that you need things to be going smoothly before you can start, there’s a good chance you’ll carry that same mindset with you once you’ve started. Then, as soon as life gets busy or something goes wrong, it becomes much easier to tell yourself it isn’t the right time to keep going either.

Life will get in the way sometimes. You might need to adapt what you’re doing, but that doesn’t mean you need to stop.

Start by implementing a few consistent changes, put the work in and build on them over time. That’s how you get results.

The changes can be as simple as they need to be to make them something you can really stick to. For example, you could start by aiming to train twice a week and eat more protein. Or it could be getting your daily steps up and improving one or two of your usual food choices.

Do what you know you can manage and build on it from there. Some people will be able to make more changes from the start, while others might need to start with less.

It really can be that simple.

Building muscle has changed far more than just how I look.

At 19, I was skinny, less confident, and had no real idea what I was capable of physically. Looking back, I wasn’t eating anywhere near enough. I felt lethargic, weak, and had very little belief in what I could achieve physically.

Now at 31, I’m stronger, fitter, more confident, and feel so much better in myself than I did over a decade ago.

When people look at me now, the muscle is probably the most obvious change, and they might assume that’s the main reason I’ve kept doing this for so long. But it’s only one part of it. I like being bigger and stronger, and I like looking at what I’ve built and knowing the work that went into it.

But sticking with training and consistently working on myself has given me so much more. It’s given me structure during some very difficult periods of my life, something productive to focus on when other things felt uncertain, and shown me that I can struggle, lose motivation, have setbacks, and still keep moving forward.

Over time, becoming physically stronger has also given me a huge amount of confidence and mental strength outside the gym. That’s a big part of why I coach.

Training and building muscle have become part of a much bigger picture for me. I’m healthier, more capable, more confident in myself, and genuinely feel better at 31 than I did at 19. It’s something I intend to keep doing for as long as I’m able to.

And your entire life doesn’t need to revolve around training to get a lot from it. You need a sensible plan, enough nutrition, consistency, patience, and an approach that works alongside the rest of your life.

If you’re ready to start moving forward with your own goals, send me a DM. We’ll look at where you are now, where you want to get to, and the best way to start making it happen.

Tall guys can build a serious amount of muscle.

Progress might take a little longer to show on a lankier frame, but that doesn’t mean your height is the issue.

Most of the time, the same things that stop anyone else progressing still apply.

Food is often the first place to check.

If your bodyweight hasn’t moved for weeks, your calories probably aren’t high enough to support muscle growth.

A lot of people underestimate how much they need to eat to build muscle, but for taller guys this can be even more of an issue because they often need more calories than they think to get their bodyweight moving upwards.

If your weight is going up but you’re mainly gaining fat, then protein, training quality, consistency, or recovery may need looking at.

So before blaming your height, look at the full picture.

Build the plan to match the frame you’re trying to build.

Blessed to be able to do this. Not everyone has the means or circumstances to prioritise their physique and health, eat enough protein, stay in a calorie surplus or pay for a gym membership.

It’s easy to see training as something you have to do, but being able to do it is a privilege too. Don’t take it for granted.

Gave a hyrox (sim) a try with the veteran Michael Joshua Noble and we came out with a decent 1:05:43 time.

Tempted to try the real thing next year, aiming for around 1hr with a proper training block (and not 2.5 weeks of half arsed hyrox-focussed training), then I can never have to do this catabolic but addictive sport again.

I’m currently sitting at 94 kg and feeling fitter than ever, while maintaining my muscle, bringing up weaker body parts and improving the efficiency of my training.

The goal I set at the end of last year: to finish the summer in my best overall shape and health. Achieving it feels incredible, not just because of the result, but because I made a plan, followed through and proved to myself that I could do it.

What are you working towards this year? Have you achieved it yet?

Having a goal is important, but you also need a plan that fits around your lifestyle and current situation. When you finally reach something you have worked towards for the longer term, there is no feeling quite like it.

To find out what approach could work for you, book a free game plan call through the Linktree in my bio. We will identify what is holding back your physique and fitness progress and give you clear direction on how to move forward.
