"Greece is the country that offers you the discovery of yourself"
Lawrence Durrell 1912-1990
This trip has been all about self-discovery. So much has changed for me since I was last here in 2022.
Travelling alone has given me a real sense of freedom and space to breathe. South Corfu offers a welcome contrast to what can sometimes feel like a busy, fast-paced life back home. It has given me time to slow down, reflect, recharge and appreciate all that I have.
Solo travel can feel a little daunting at first but, again, it's been one of the most rewarding experiences I've had.
Some highlights from this week:
π₯ Adventure β cycling 108km over two days and making it to Chlomos, known as the Balcony of Corfu. This beautiful 13th-century village sits 300 metres above sea level with incredible views across the Ionian Sea.
π§π»ββοΈ Yoga β moving and stretching each morning while looking out over the sea, followed by a refreshing dip in the ocean.
πΆπ» Exploring β wandering through Corfu Old Town and soaking up its architecture, philosophy and mythology.
β΄οΈ Boat trip β heading out onto the water to the south lagoon and Electra Botanical Gardens in Notos πΊ. A sign at the entrance reads, "You are entering an absolute stress-free zone" β and it genuinely feels that way.
π«ΆπΌ People β the local Corfu community has made this trip even more special. I've had some lovely conversations and made memories I'll treasure.
π
Greek swallows and sunsets β every evening brought a beautiful display of swooping swallows against skies painted with oranges, pinks, blues and lilacs.
π Food and drink β fresh fish, moussaka and local Greek wine... enough said π
βοΈ Relaxation β enjoying a slower pace and spending a little less time watching the clock.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer and get the chance to enjoy some rest, adventure and sunshine wherever you find yourselves.
I can't wait to see you back in class next week. I'll be bringing a little Greek magic with me π
