Tuesday saw the first of our ‘Summer handicap’ races, a fast 2k dash along the riverbank.

No one really understands Fred’s scoring system, but it’s 2 out of 3 races to count! The leader after race one is Jo Clayton and we all had a lovely time with a few drops of rain very welcome in the muggy heat!

Looking forward to the next edition in July.

Our ORGP series kicks off on Thursday night (4th June) at 7:30pm.

We’ve run the course this evening and the going is good - fab mix of trail and gravel paths and lovely views along the Dee!

Online entries close at midnight tomorrow - you can also register on the evening - we’ll be set up and good to go just after 6:30.

https://deestriders.niftyentries.com

Best 3 out of the four races for the series - plus a memento for all series entrants at the last race in September.

Start as always is at Care & Repair in Shotton. They have made some improvements to a new car park over the bridge so you may get a space there, otherwise please use Shotton car parks - we can’t allow parking onsite due to football games also taking place.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Sun’s out- runs out! 🌞 🏃🏼‍♂️

Deestriders have a club competition each year called parkrun (small ‘p’) Blitz. Organised by Paul ‘Fred’ Aird, there are key dates throughout the year at which members take part in a parkrun and are scored based on their age graded result. It is a bit more complicated than that, but we’ll spare you the details! The main thing is it’s a morning out, usually with a breakfast option and a shot at a trophy at the annual awards night, and did we mention a bit of running. 🏆 😋

Whilst any parkrun registered as a Deestrider is acceptable, bonus points are awarded for doing a certain one and this month it was Alderford Lake in Whitchurch. 9 members, some with family, went on tour to Shropshire to complete the grassy course. Meanwhile, other Striders competed in events near and far from home.

On Sunday, David Temple completed the Cheshire 10k in 45:43, showcasing an upswing in form in very warm conditions.

To those lucky enough to be able to enjoy the Bank Holiday, do enjoy it- don’t forget sunscreen, water and possibly even insect repellent if you’re getting out and about! ☀️ 💦 🦟

The superfast Mid Cheshire 5k always draws a stellar field, congratulations to our very own Ben Rowlands who ran a stunning 16:26 there last night! (Which I think was a PB, if it wasn’t… 😱)

A fantastic day at Chester Marathon, Half, 10K & Tri half marathon today! Massive well done to all 22 of our runners out on the course - all that training clearly paid off. We will look forward to seeing those new T-shirts on a club run very soon!

Extra special congratulations to the 8 Deestriders who smashed their half marathon PB today too - you are all amazing!

Finally, a huge shout out to the Deestriders who were out marshalling on the course today. Hopefully you got a cheer as you made your way up the hill and along to the finish! We loved supporting such a fabulous local event! 💚💚

2 very different weeks in racing terms. This week has been very quiet with 23 members saving themselves for tomorrow's Essar Chester 1/2 Marathon. Goid luck everyone 💪👊🏃‍♀️🏃 don't be 💩💩

In contrast, last week saw club members travelling far and afield to compete in a variety of distances and terrains.
From Moel Lus fell race in Dwygyfylchi, to Castell Dinas Bran Wednesday alongside Borders relays the same night, then Chirk Castle relays Thursday. Friday brought about a host of pb's at Christleton 5k.
The weekend didn't get any quieter either with some heading to Llanwrst to tackle the hilly Run Wales Snowdonia 1/2 Marathon on Saturday, then 2 members Ande & Matt, travelling to Devon on Sunday for the Bideford 10k, with Angela Deeley again representing Wales in the process, whilst up in Leeds Ally & Ann-marie tackled the Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon. At the same time Christine completed Helsby Running Club 's excellently organised Sandstone Trail challenge,
Sarah Sheen ran a 10k pb at Alderly Edge, whilst Alix Thomas came 2nd female at Excalibur 10k. Well done everyone, great performances and representation of the club.
Phew, 🥵

On your mark, get set, give blood ⏱️❣️

Away from running, 5 of our members Vikki Foulkes, Ally Morrison, Ann-marie Fauset, Sarah Sheen & Melanie O'Sullivan put on their superhero capes (ok deestriders tops) and made the trip to contribute blood to save people's lives. Well done ladies 👏💗❣️

Right now, there's a shortage of blood so every donation is invaluable, so if you're able to, why not book yourself in and make a lifesaving blood donation at your nearest centre because Giving Runs in your blood. Plus you get a lovely cuppa 🍵 and a selection of biscuits

🩸 We’re proud to be supporting Welshblood in donating blood and saving lives across Wales.

In a week of relays, on Thursday four Deestrider teams took to the trails of Chirk Castle for the relay event hosted by Oswestry Olympians.

The 3 x 2mile race offered a lovely downhill start onto the trail section, then a bit of a slog back up the hill (although as one of the marshals pointed out, the bluebells were lovely!) Then it was round the front of the castle and back down the drive to the cheering crowd to hand the baton over.

Delighted to report that the amazing Green Pixies (Chrissy, Hannah and Lisa) came second in the ladies competition - well done ladies 💚
