Match 21 saw Quainton deliver a true game of two halves, with a performance that turned completely after the break.
The first half is best kept brief. After going 1-0 down, Quainton found a way back through Wilson, who struck a superb half volley into the corner to level things up. That’s about all that needs saying, as the sides went into half time at 1-1.
The break brought honesty, accountability, and a few strong words. Players spoke up about what wasn’t working, changes were made, and from the restart it was a completely different story.
Just two minutes into the second half, Wilson struck again, this time lobbing the keeper to give Quainton the lead. Minutes later, Johnny found his scoring boots, before birthday boy Callum fired a screamer into the top corner. In a frantic five-minute spell, Quainton had turned the game on its head and surged into a 4-1 lead. Suddenly, we remembered where the goal was.
Penguins were handed a controversial penalty which they converted, and for a short spell they applied some pressure. But Quainton responded well, calming the tempo and regaining control.
From there, Johnny took centre stage. He added his second, then completed his hat trick with another well-taken finish, making it his second hat trick of the season. The goals kept coming as JJ added a seventh, and Quainton still wanted more.
Wilson wasn’t done either. After some brilliant footwork from Harry Collins, who danced past several players before slipping a perfect pass through, Wilson finished coolly into the bottom corner to complete his own hat trick and seal Quainton’s eighth of the afternoon.
Full time: Quainton 8–2 Penguins
A game that showed the importance of learning, listening, and responding. The first half was a wake-up call, the second half was everything done right.
There were strong performances all over the pitch, with Ryan B, Harry, Charlie and Oscar all impressing. But the supporters’ men of the match went to the hat trick heroes, Wilson and Johnny.
Three points on the board and up to second place with three games remaining. All to play for.
