Pulborough BC Finals Weekend is a Huge Success!

The August Bank Holiday weekend is traditionally the home of President's Day at Pulborough Bowls Club and 2026 was no exception, with play starting at 2pm on Monday afternoon. Six drawn triples played 3 rounds of 7 ends against different teams on different rinks, with the winners being decided on shot difference. Malcolm Gray's team of Mike Ryan and a junior member lost their first 2 matches, but won by 12 shots to 1 in their third to reach +9, whereas Marc Pells, Jeffe Elliott and Sylvia Smith won all three matches to sneak the win by +10 shots and take away the engraved wh**ky tumblers. A fantastic day of bowls in good company.

An away friendly at Marine Gardens in Worthing is always interesting, as you never quite know what the pace of the green will be and we can safely say that it was quite a push on this occasion! The banter on the green was fantastic and all three triples had a smile on their faces at the end of the match, despite a mixed bag of results over the 3 triples! Jeffe Elliott's rink managed a draw with 15 shots a piece, but Jane Gray's rink of Nicola Pells and Melvin Green couldn't put a foot wrong, going into tea at 9 ends with 13 shots in hand, but they didn't take their foot off the gas, taking 8 shots on the 17th end and a win by 37 shots to 5 - impressive! The final score as a result was 59/43 to Pulborough!

Finals weekend at PBC is a chance for the top players to show their skills on the green and put on a show for the watching spectators and they didn't disappoint! The Drawn Pairs went to Dave Cobbold and his junior partner after just 12 ends of intense bowls resulted in a convincing win 15/3. The 4 Wood Handicap was a tight match, with Ian Younger needing to get to 25 shots and just losing out to Dave Fuller, who reached the finishing post, after a 27 end nail-biting match!

The Novice Salver, reserved for the newer members of the club, was contested by Sonia Burden and Nicola Pells and again, went to 27 ends, after Nicola got stuck on 19 shots and let Sonia catch up, before resetting and hauling herself over the finishing line to claim the silver salver by 21 shots to 19! Jane Gray and Steve Adsett played each other in the 2 Wood Handicap final at 2pm and after a slow start, Jane took the win for the second time in 16 years at the club.

The final match on Saturday was the Junior championship for members under 18 years. Jeremiel Kwame, in just his first season at the club, had a strong start, matching his opponents scores until the 10th end, when first season nerves kicked in and his more experienced opposition piled on the pressure to take the win 22/13, but there's always next year!

Sunday the 6th kicked off at midday with the Diggle Cup, or 3,2,1, where the first 3 woods closest to the jack score 3 points, 2 points and 1, giving a possible 6 points available every end and the first to 71 taking the win. Ian Younger and Jacob Pells put on a great show, with Ian just keeping his nose in front until the 20th end when they pulled level on 60 shots each, but Ian started the final end 70 shots to 68 up, meaning he only needed 3rd shot to win, but he went two better and got shot wood, taking him to 73 and completing his run of wins in all the club competitions throughout his time at Pulborough BC, to date!

Unfortunately in it's very first year the Senior Championship couldn't be completed due to one player falling ill prior to the finals, so the new, shiny cup was awarded to the other player, Ian Younger for reaching the final match.

The longest match of the weekend went to Nicola Pells and Dave Fuller in the Novice Cup, taking it to 27 ends after going into the 26th 20/20 and Nicola stealing the win by a final 2 shots!

Jane Gray started her defense of the Ladies Championship title at 2.30pm, playing L.A Feldmanis in a tense match of 16 ends, with the early momentum going to LA, sitting 4/0 up in the first 2 ends, but after winning the 3rd by 1 shot, the match turned towards Jane and the title was retained, despite LA playing a fantastic match and some cracking shots to change the head!

Steve Adsett and his junior opponent played the flagship event, the Men's Championship at 4pm and an on form Steve was in no mood to be lenient, taking the win 22/11 after just 19 ends, not easy against a player who has won against tough competition to reach the final.

The trophy presentations were made by President Terry Chriss, Captain Marc Pells and Competition Secretary Steve Adsett, followed by a bbq and numerous drinks at the bar! The Captain's Cup, in recognition of services to the Bowls Club over the year, went to Alison Forster and a bottle of brandy was given to National Umpire, Ian Phillips, in thanks for all his help umpiring Finals weekend and other club competitions throughout the year.

Finals weekend was a huge success, with both new and repeat winners getting their names engraved on the trophies for 2026, but next year may be a different story, with new names vying for the top spots!

Pulborough Retain Division 1 Status!

As the 2026 bowls season begins to draw to a close, the final standings in both the Men's West Sussex Bowls League and mixed Brookes Motors League have been decided and clubs can begin to plan fixtures for next season.
Pulborough's final match in the BML League was against Norfolk BC on Thursday afternoon. Two League triples and a friendly played 18 ends of competitive bowls, with two rinks going to the home side. The friendly rink of Jeffe Elliott, L.A Feldmanis and Melvin Green battled from start to finish, taking 4 shots over the last 2 ends to steal the win 15/11 and take Top Rink. Skip Terry Chriss, with Alfie Fuller as Lead and Nicola Pells as 2 secured the only 2 League points for Pulborough, winning by just 1 shot, 18/17.
Pulborough finished their Brookes Motors League campaign for 2026 3rd in the Division 1 table on 43 points and a +66 shot difference, just behind Middleton in second place and Chichester in 1st.
After a tense wait it was finally announced that Pulborough will remain in Division 1 of the West Sussex Bowls League for 2027, after just 1 team was demoted to Division 2. A fantastic achievement after a tricky year of mixed results against tough opposition, but with a chance to reset and regroup over the Winter, Pulborough BC will come back stronger in 2027!
Friday the 28th saw the annual visit by the Sussex Vice Patrons for a 2pm start. Four rinks played 18 ends under threatening skies, with a split result giving 2 wins for Pulborough and 2 for the VP's and the overall result by a narrow margin 68 shots to 63! Steve Adsett's rink of Nicola Pells, Brian Maughan and Ian Younger kept their noses in front from the start, winning by 15 shots to 12, whilst Top rink went to the youngest rink of Skip Alex Herbert, with Alfie Fuller as Lead, Ray Hall as 2 and another junior as 3, after a 4 on the final end sealed their win! A fantastic game full of skill and banter amongst friends.
Next week will see a friendly away at Marine Gardens, followed by Club Finals weekend - good luck everyone!

Pulborough Pair Play Mixed Pairs County Final!

A packed week for Pulborough BC began with a home friendly against our friends from Ewhurst BC on Wednesday afternoon. Four triples played 18 ends, with a full spectrum of results, one win, one draw and two narrow losses by just 1 shot! Ian Younger's team of Sonia Burden and Alison Forster kept the scores tight throughout the match, taking the lead from halfway, only to be hauled back to a draw on end 18! Top rink went to Skip Jane Gray, with Melvin Green as Lead and Jeremiel Kwame as 2, after a 6 on the 6th end catapulted them into the lead, never to look back! They finished on an impressive 27 shots to 10, giving an overall score of 75 shots to 55!
Next up was Pulborough's penultimate match in the Brookes Motors League, at home to Petworth BC on Thursday afternoon. The friendly rink, made up of Sylvia Smith, Etienne Kearns and one of our talented juniors, who played alongside the League, had the best result, winning by 38 shots to 6! Of the 2 League triples Terry Chriss's team of Alfie Fuller and Nicola Pells stormed ahead from halfway to win convincingly 25/11, whilst Malcolm Gray, Jane Gray and Jeffe Elliott had to fight back from 14/3 down on the 7th end to steal the win by 17/15, giving Pulborough a valuable 6 League points and security in the Div 1 League table for 2026.
In County news, Steve Adsett and Nicola Pells played in the Sussex County Mixed Pairs Final at Horsham BC on Saturday morning against Mark Strong and Lea from Buxsted Park. After keeping the scores close throughout and going 15/14 up on the 15th end, they narrowly lost out on the win, but should be really proud to have made it all the way to the Final!
Sunday the 23rd saw the final round in Pulborough's bid to stay in Division 1 of the West Sussex Bowls League for 2027, playing bottom placed Maltravers in an eighteen end finale that would decide who sits in the relegation zone. Four rinks played in ideal conditions, with a friendly ladies rink alongside, which went the way of the visitors after an initially close start. The pressure was on to get the full quota of points and Pulborough was close to delivering just that, but one rink had a tough time and just lost out, giving the home side just 8/10 points and a difficult wait to see how many teams are heading down into Division 2 next season!
Top rink for Pulborough went to Skip Malcolm Gray, with Richard Burden as Lead, Jeremiel Kwame as 2 and Alex Herbert as 3, after winning all bar 6 ends and dropping just 6 shots to finish 21/6 up!
As thoughts now turn to Club Finals in early September, any match practice is valuable and next week will see the last BML League match at home to Norfolk on Thursday, a visit from the Sussex Vice Patrons on Friday and a friendly against Stedham on Saturday, spectators always welcome.

It's A Clean Sweep for Pulborough BC With 2/2 Wins this Week!

It's a rare occasion for Pulborough players to head to a new club for a fixture, but an away match at Burgess Hill BC was a hotly anticipated game. 3 Pulborough triples were welcomed onto a quality green for 18 ends of banter-filled bowls! When players headed into for refreshments at halfway, the away side were already 11 shots ahead and the final result was 2 wins and a draw for Pulborough, with Malcolm Gray's triple of Jeremiel Kwame and Alison Forster pulling ahead in the final 6 ends to win by 17 shots to 12, whilst Top Rink, by just 1 shot, went to Skip Jane Gray, with Sonia Burden as Lead and Paul Smith as 2 who finished 22/16. Thoughts now turn to the return fixture on the 9th of September, when Burgess Hill will try to turn the tide in their favour and beat Pulborough at home!
With the heat cancellation of the Pulborough Churches fixture on Thursday evening, the next match was the Penultimate West Sussex Bowls League match at home to Worthing Pavilion, who never really got started! 4 rinks played 18 ends of one-sided bowls, with the home side already ahead by 21 shots at halfway and taking a valuable 8/10 League points for the overall match win by 88/52 and 3 rinks! Top rink went to John Brown, with Alfie Fuller as Lead, Richard Burden as 2 and Terry Chriss as 3, after winning all bar 4 ends to win by an impressive 28 shots to 5!
In County news, Steve Adsett and Nicola Pells are through to the Semi-Final of the Sussex County Mixed Pairs, after beating Trevor Monk and Karina from Northiam BC 23/7 at a dry, dusty Worthing Pavilion green, after just 14 ends! A fantastic result!
Sunday saw the return of the Penny Rhoder Cup in aid of MacMillan, where friends and family of Jeff and Tara Davy, the late Penny Rhoder's Husband and Daughter, mix with Bowls Club members to raise funds for charity with a coin auction, sizable raffle and Spider.
Next week will see the final WSBL match at home to Maltravers, the penultimate match in the Brookes Motors League at home to Petworth and a friendly against Ewhurst , spectators always welcome!

It's A Points Bonanza at Pulborough BC!
With all the internal club competitions coming to a head, space on the green this week has been at a premium, but Pulborough Bowls Club players are getting plenty of practice and showing off their skills!In County news, Steve Adsett, Dave Cobbold, Nicola Pells and Jane Gray advanced to the Semi-final of the Sussex County Mixed Fours competition after beating a team from Witterings BC at Norfolk Bowls Club in the Area Final on Thursday evening. After a slow start the Pulborough quartet pulled back from 10/5 down to win by 6 shots on the 18th end! The team then progressed to the Semi-final at Buxted Park on Sunday morning, playing against a team from Eastbourne, which is unfortunately where their County journey comes to an end, after the Eastbourne Skip drew the perfect shot on the last end to steal the dream away! Steve and Nicola are still in the County Mixed Pairs after winning the Area 4 Final on Monday 3rd Aug at Arundel BC against Terry Carline and his Mom, by 21 shots to 8. They will now play at Worthing Pavilion in the County Semi Final on the 16th August - good luck to them both!Two Pulborough triples travelled to Norfolk BC for a 2pm start on Thursday, for one of the last Brookes Motors League matches of the 2026 season. On a tough green, one of the two teams, skipped by Malcolm Gray, with Jacob Pells as Lead and Alison Forster as two, won 12/18 ends to finished strongly on 22 shots to Norfolk's 8, securing two League points for the rink win and enough shots to give the overall victory to Pulborough by 37/24, a fantastic win!Tarring Priory travelled to Pulborough for the next round of the Men's West Sussex Bowls League on Saturday afternoon. 4 triples played League, accompanied by a friendly rink of Pulborough ladies, disappointed not to be playing a rink of Tarring ladies as arranged! Of the 4 rinks, 2 went to Pulborough, with Top rink going to Skip Steve Adsett, with Ray Knight as Lead, Brian Maughan as 2 and Jacob Pells as 3, after taking the lead on the 9th end and not looking back! The overall score was hard fought, with Dave Cobbold's rink taking 5 shots on the 17th end to seal the win by 70 shots to 65 - a close call!Next week will see a new friendly away at Burgess Hill on Tuesday, a visit by the Friends of Pulborough Churches on Thursday evening at 6pm, Worthing Pavilion in the WSBL on Saturday and the Penny Rhoder Cup on Sunday from 2pm, another packed week at Pulborough BC!--

Pulborough BC Showcases it's Green and Facilities in Men's Triples Competition!

With the temperatures showing no signs of dropping out, Pulborough played the first of two home League matches, the mixed BML League, on Thursday the 30th at 6pm against Chichester BC. Two triples played 18 ends of competitive bowls, with the team on rink 3 battling from 5/7 down on the 8th end, to score 5 shots on the 14th end and pull away from the Chi triple to finish 23 shots to just 9! Top rink went to Skip and Captain, Marc Pells, with Jane Gray as Lead and his Son, Jacob as 2, after taking 6 shots on the first end, they didn't look back, dominating the game to finish 31/10 up, quite a convincing win! The final result was the full 6 League points to Pulborough and a healthy +35 shot difference!
The toughest game of the week was a home West Sussex Bowls League match against Southbourne on Saturday afternoon in hot conditions. 4 rinks played 18 ends, with Southbourne noticeably stacking two teams with their best players to try to secure the win by getting the overall score, but their tactic let them down, with Pulborough just making it over the finishing line by 73/67, largely due to Dave Cobbold's rink taking 5 shots on the last end to close the gap and two Pulborough rinks winning by 17 shots to cover any deficit on the two losing rinks! Top rink with +13 shots was Skip Malcolm Gray, with Richard Burden as Lead, Paul Smith as 2 and Alex Herbert as 3, who managed two 5's during the match and 12 winning ends!
The highlight of the week was the Pulborough BC Greenkeeper's Men's Triples on Sunday, kindly sponsored by Bryders Funeral Directors of Pulborough. It was a very early start for all the helpers, with players arriving from 8.15am and the club needing to be set up to welcome them! It was fantastic to see everyone pulling together to host the day, with some key people taking on important rolls, such as Ian Younger running the bar, Alison Forster and Jane Gray running the kitchen, L.A Feldmanis running the tea urn, Jenny Miland-Taylor, Ray Hall and Steve Adsett scoring, Alex Herbert and Malcolm Gray looking after the players and Steve Bicknell, Linda Green and Sylvia Smith putting the kitchen back together after the mayhem of lunch service! Our friendly National Umpire, Ian Phillips of Fittleworth oversaw the day and kept the play in order, so he has our thanks for giving his time for free.
12 teams took part including one Pulborough triple of Jeffe Elliott, Melvin Green and a junior member, who came middle of their group after winning 2/4 matches. Every team played 4 matches of 7 ends in alternate sessions for the Red and Blue Groups. After the 4 matches Fiddlers 3 and Worthing Wombats came second in their groups and played for 3rd and 4th place, with Fiddlers 3 taking the win by 5 shots to 3. The top spot was contested by the 3 L'S from Worthing and the Dream Team, with the latter retaining the winner's shield and taking home £120 in prize money, with a score of 9/3. A fantastic day full of team spirit, compliments on the green, drinks and cake, putting Pulborough BC and it's members in a positive light thanks to a lot of hard work!Next week will see Pulborough players contest the Area Finals of both the Mixed Pairs and Mixed Fours, play in the Witterings Men's Open and play League matches against Norfolk BC and Tarring Priory, another busy week!

Pulborough Players Pull Out the Stops in Their Pursuit of League Points!

Another packed week at Pulborough Bowls Club began with a visit from year 5 pupils from St Mary's C of E Primary School in Pulborough on Monday afternoon. 19 pupils, aged 10 and upwards and their teachers arrived at the club at 1.15pm, to be welcomed by the club Captain, Marc Pells and Secretary, Jane Gray, before being given instruction on how to bowl and how to look after the green and themselves whilst at the club. The usual organised chaos ensued, with a mixed bag of natural bowling talent on display. The second session saw 26 pupils arrive to have a go, putting the members' patience and skills to the test, but Marc, Jane, Linda, Poppy, Richard, LA and Mike survived the experience and hopefully encouraged some of the next generation to think again about possibly trying bowls in the future!
With Pulborough struggling to gain points in both Leagues this season, a turnaround in form was well overdue, so a home fixture in the Brookes Motors League against Southbourne yielding the full 6 points for 2 rink wins and an overall score of 69 shots to 15, was bound to lift the spirits! Top rink went to Captain Marc Pells, with Jane Gray as Lead and Jacob Pells as 2, 39/10!
Saturday saw the next round of the Men's West Sussex Bowls League at Pulborough against Chichester BC. 4 rinks took to the green for a 6pm start and the scores were close throughout, but Pulborough managed to secure 2 rinks wins, Skipped by John Brown and Dave Cobbold and the overall score, giving them 6/10 League point and the win. Hopefully the start of a positive run for Pulborough BC!
Sunday the 26th heralded the 4th George Lewis Handicap Pairs, in memory of George, a much loved club member, bowler, Father to Jenny Usherwood and Jane Gray and Husband to Elaine Lewis, with all 3 being present to present the two pewter tankards to the winning pair. 10 pairs played, with the semi-finals being contested by Poppy Pells & Alfie Fuller v Sonia Burden & Dave Fuller and Alex Herbert & Malcolm Gray v Alison Forster & a junior member. Our two youngest members, Poppy and Alfie won by 11 shots to 9 over the 15 ends and Alison and her partner won by the same margin. The final was played over a further 15 ends, with the scores being tied on 12 shots each going into the final end, but Alison and her partner took the win with an impressive 3 shot final end to win by 15 shots to 12! A fantastic day of bowling that George would have enjoyed!
Next week will see Chichester return to play Pulborough in the Brookes Motors League on Thursday evening, Southbourn in the WSBL on Saturday and the Pulborough Men's Triples competition on Sunday from 9am, let's hope the temperatures don't get too steamy!

Pulborough Pair Reach the County Mixed Pairs Area Final!

A packed week of bowling at Pulborough saw positive results across the spectrum, from County to Club, showing the improvements in bowling from the entire membership!
First up was a three triple friendly away at Cranleigh in Surrey. After 18 ends of tough bowling, two triples came out on top, with Jacob Pells, Alison Forster and Richard Burden taking Top rink by 17 shots to 7 and making up the deficit to give Pulborough the overall win by 46 shots to 41!
2026 marks Petworth Bowls Club Centenary year and Pulborough entered a team into their Invitation 4's competition on Thursday the 16th July. John Brown, Marc Pells, Ray Knight and James Barber braved the scorching conditions to come back with a fantastic 4th place certificate after coming second to the Sussex Under 25's in Group B with 8 points and a +1 shot difference, a fantastic result, well done everyone!
The Annual visit by the West Sussex Tourists is always a treat and this year was no exception, with 12 larger-than-life characters showing their decades of skill on the Pulborough green and giving our team a lesson in quality bowling! The first 9 ends looked promising, but after stopping halfway for platters of home made cake the Tourists seemed to find an extra gear, except on rink 6, skipped by Steve Adsett, with Jane Gray as 2 and Jeremiel Kwame as Lead, who only relinquished 5 shots to their own 26 to take Top Rink! The final score was 64/59 to the Tourists, but a great day in good company of bowling makes up for the result!
The final match of the week was the next round of the men's West Sussex Bowls League away at Bognor and Pulborough's final away League match of 2026, which is always a challenge on a less than ideal green! But despite the difficult surface, Pulborough didn't come away empty handed, taking 2 more valuable League points to help with their fight to stay in Div 1 for 2027! Top rink went to Skip Dave Cobbold, with a Junior player as Lead, Brian Maughan as 2 and Ian Younger as 3 and with some consistent scoring they pulled out a 26/9 win to reduce Pulborough's shot difference to just -15 shots!
In County news, Steve Adsett and Nicola Pells beat Paul Smith and Liz Campling from Chichester 19/15 to reach the Area Final of the Sussex Mixed Pairs competition on Thursday the 6th Aug, Congratulations, especially to Nicola, who is only just starting on her County journey!
Jane Gray also played in the Sussex County Ladies Two Wood semi-final on Sunday the 19th at Preston BC, but despite taking her opponent, Vanessa Mellor from Southwater BC, to the full 21 ends, lost out to a fantastic wood on the final end to finish her County comp journey for this season, roll on 2027!
Next week will see a visit from St Mary's Primary School on Monday afternoon, a mixed League match at home against Southbourne on Wednesday, the next round of the WSBL at home to Chichester on Friday evening and the George Lewis Handicap Pairs on Sunday, another packed week!

Pulborough Players On A High After A Positive Week of Results!

The heat on the green this week has certainly played havoc with the match fixtures, but some matches still went ahead under the blazing sun!
First up was an evening friendly away at Graffham, by which time the temperatures had started to drop a little! 3 triples played 18 ends on a notoriously tricky green, with a mixed bag of results giving a resounding win for Steve Adsett's rink of Poppy and Nicola Pells, who made it easy for their skip to race to a 34/3 win, whilst Marc Pells, Jane Gray and Jeremiel Kwame as Lead, battled their way to a 20/17 win, giving a final score of 61/46 to Pulborough, a great result against some lovely players in beautiful surroundings.
In County news Jacob Pells and Alfie Fuller, two of Pulborough's most talented junior members played together in the Final of the Sussex Under 25's Pairs competition on Wednesday at Lindfield BC against Tommy and Vinnie from Worthing Pavilion and were 11/4 up after 9 ends, only to narrowly miss out on the win by 14 shots to 18! A fantastic achievement to reach the final, better luck next year!
After a cancelled friendly against Horsham BC due to the heat, the next fixture was a West Sussex Bowls League match at home to East Preston on Saturday afternoon. With temperatures set to be near 30 degrees, everything was put in place to look after the players and try to protect them from any ill effects. Iced water and additional shade was provided in cool-down stations around the green throughout the match, iced lollies and fans after play finished and players were advised to wear hats and sunscreen, which sometimes gets forgotten by the male players! A ladies friendly rink played alongside the men, with East Preston taking a narrow win over the home side 17/14. The men fared a bit better, only losing on 1/4 rinks, resulting in a brilliant 8/10 League points for 3 rink wins and the overall score 64/56, a refreshing change of fortunes for Pulborough in a tough League season! Compliments flowed from the away side about the green and how it bowled, which is a credit to our Greenkeeper, Malcolm Gray, who has worked hard to protect it from the heat and Dave Cobbold, who has helped with additional watering during recent hot spells!
A busy week next week will see a friendly away at Cranleigh, a team from Pulborough in the Petworth Centenary 4's on Thursday, a visit from the West Sussex Tourists on Saturday and a WSBL match away at Bognor on Sunday, quite the line-up!

The Compliments Fly as Pulborough's Green Hosts 6 Rinks of Billingham on Friday

A slightly cooler week gave the Pulborough members time to play some of their internal competitions before the temperatures ramp-up again next week, alongside a friendly against local club Billingshurst and an away League match at East Preston.Thursday's match away at Billingshurst began at 6pm, with 3 triples taking to the green for 18 ends of banter between local rivals! The away side started strong, with 1 rink level, 1 ahead and one just 4 shots adrift at halfway, but they dug their heels in, with Malcolm Gray's triple of Poppy Pells and Linda Meadowcroft just squeaking the win by 1 shot, Jane Gray, Jeremiel Kwame and Nicola Pells taking 6 shots in the last 3 ends to win by 16 shots to 13 and Top Rink going to Jacob Pells, Sylvia Smith and Paul Smith, who stormed ahead on the 15th and didn't look back, winning 16/10! The final result was 49/39 to Pulborough!Pulborough Bowls Club is a small club of just over 40 active members and yet they manage to pull together to host 48 players who belong to Divisions 3 &4 of Sussex County Vice Patrons Billingham League! It's fantastic to see both the clubhouse and the green buzzing with activity as the players arrive, get ready, get fleeced for raffle tickets and head to the green for 18 ends of highly competitive bowls. The players belong to all different clubs and register to play for the Vice Patrons each year, with the best selected to play in the Billingham League matches between the 4 areas. Pre-match rolls and cookies were consumed before play began at 2pm, with Area 4, which covers the clubs Pulborough BC and its catchment of clubs, winning 4/6 rinks to take the overall win. Ian Younger and John Brown represented Pulborough as part of the Vice Patrons. A ploughman's Supper and extensive raffle followed, with the club raising over £260 towards the planned Winter renovations and improvements. The feedback about not only the green, but the hospitality provided by the members was overwhelmingly positive and fantastic for the club!An away match in the West Sussex Bowls League at East Preston on Saturday was a tough ask on a heavy, bumpy green, but the Pulborough men didn't come away empty-handed, taking 2 valuable League points for a Top Rink, skipped by John Brown, with Ryan Davy as Lead, James Barber as 2 and Ian Younger as 3 by 19 shots to 12. The friendly ladies rink playing alongside, skipped by Jane Gray, with L.A Feldmanis as Lead, Sylvia Smith as 2 and Alison Forster as 3, had a fantastic match, with the lead changing multiple times and finally going to Pulborough by 14 shots to 13, quite the battle!Finally, in County news, Pulborough still has players in this years County competitions: Steve Adsett and Nicola Pells will play the third round of the Mixed Pairs this week against East Preston, Steve, Nicola, Dave Cobbold and Jane Gray will play the 4th round of the Mixed Fours later in July, One of our top Juniors will play Anthony Bull from Southbourne in the 4th round of the County 4 Wood Singles on Monday, both Malcolm Gray and Marc Pells will play round 2 of the Men's Unbadged Singles this Wednesday and Jane Gray will represent Pulborough in the Semi-final of the Ladies County 2 Wood on the 19th of July at Preston BC. Hopefully a few rounds yet to go for the home players!
