Great Game Today

Great game today against a strong Driglington side. It wasn’t the result we wanted, but the girls put in a fantastic performance from start to finish. Lots of red faces tonight showing just how much effort every single girl put in.

Player of the Match – Rosie

Rosie was a menace down the wing, creating runs and plenty of chances. To top it off, she scored her first goal on her debut game. What a way to start!

Opposition Player of the Game – Evie

After a spell out injured, Evie came back for her first full game and put in a fantastic performance, earning the opposition’s Player of the Game award.

Every single one of the girls should be incredibly proud of their performance today. The effort, determination and teamwork were fantastic.

*Match Report*

Today was our first game back after a couple of hard galas and a good few weeks off, and what a way to return!

We faced a very organised Howdenclough side in a rematch from last pre-season. Howdenclough started strongly and put us under a lot of pressure, meaning we had to be very defensive in the opening stages. Our defence stayed organised and worked extremely hard, with Lily making some fantastic saves to keep us in the game.

Our midfielders also dropped back to help the defence, and every single player put in a real defensive shift. The passing we have been working on in training is also starting to show, with some really good passages of play today.

In the second half, Evie went in goal after returning from injury, and it was fantastic to see her back between the sticks. She made some excellent saves and helped keep Howdenclough at bay.

As the game began to flow more in our favour, we started to settle into our natural positions and created a fair few chances.

Then came the goal! A fantastic run from midfield and a great finish from Neve to give us the lead. Well done, Neve! 👏

Howdenclough continued to create chances, but Evie made some excellent saves, while Layla produced a fantastic piece of defending to clear a shot off the line.

Every single player played their socks off today, especially after having a few weeks away from competitive football. The effort, teamwork and determination from the girls was fantastic to see.

An outstanding performance from Lily today. She made some fantastic saves, worked tirelessly for the team and showed incredible determination by continuing to play despite picking up an injury during the game. A well-deserved Player of the Match!

Not our day today, but you couldn’t fault the girls for the effort they put in against some strong teams in the red hot sun. They continued to work brilliantly as a team and never stopped encouraging each other.

It was great practice for the next gala, and it was so good to see them smiling regardless of the result. Incredibly proud of their work rate and attitude today! Well played, girls! It was a very tough day, with everyone having to swap positions, but you all tried your hardest, and that’s all anyone can ask for. Be proud of yourselves you never gave up and kept battling until the end. Well done! ⚽️

Today, the girls looked rock solid against a very good team.

Our defending was exceptional with Layla , Annabelle, and Shearipo dealing with every single attack with absolute confidence.

Our midfield and attack were equally strong. We saw some great passing moves and excellent attacking runs from Phoebe, Lily, Hettie, Neve, Maya, and Mya.

Every single girl worked tirelessly, which resulted in two lovely goals scored by Mya and Lily.

A special shout-out also goes to Lily, Mya, and Neve, who all did a fantastic job sharing the goalkeeper duties today to keep the team secure.

Coaches Players of the Match went to - Annabelle and Phoebe!

Annabelle: Superb in our backline today. She read the game brilliantly and delivered some excellent throw-ins that put the opposition straight on the back foot.

Phoebe: Covered every blade of grass today. She showed what a great engine she has alongside her massive desire to win the ball. She was a constant threat to the opposition and very unlucky not to score herself.

We’re a supportive, welcoming team with a great group of girls who love the game.

Match Report – Stanningley vs Drig

The girls started the game brilliantly. The passing between all the players was on point, and the pressing when we didn’t have the ball was top-notch. Every player worked incredibly hard and ran their socks off in the heat.

Mya made some amazing saves to keep us in the lead and also scored a goal in the second half with her left foot. She had a few more attempts on goal and put in a fantastic all-round performance.

For her first game as captain, Shearipo was outstanding. She commanded the back line brilliantly, was very vocal throughout, and showed great leadership qualities.

Layla was an absolute brick wall in defence. Their attacker simply couldn’t get past her,

Annabelle was excellent with her throw-ins and clearances today and used her strength well to overpower the opposition players.

Sophie played in several different positions and did a great job wherever she was asked to play. She was a real utility player for the team today.

Maya had a great game in central midfield. She had a shot on target and worked hard to create space and opportunities for the attackers.

Ava played in both central midfield and defence and was top-notch throughout. She also scored an absolute cracker of a goal.

Hettie was flying down the wing today, winning the ball back, bullying players off it, and pressing relentlessly from start to finish.

Neve played in central midfield and also spent some time as a striker. She was excellent both on and off the ball, creating chances and linking play well.

Jess played as a striker and pressed better than ever before. Her determination and work rate created several opportunities for the team as she never gave up.

Lily played as a striker, carried the ball forward well, and had several chances on goal. She never stopped working and also played in goal, where she kept a clean sheet. Her confidence is growing week by week.

A special mention to Phoebe, who made her debut for us today. She was fantastic on the wing, constantly tracking back, passing superbly, and capped off her performance with an absolute wonder goal. Well done, Phoebe!

Huge well done to all the girls — finishing 2nd in the group stage, making it through to the top cup, reaching the semis and then coming away 3rd overall in the whole tournament is a brilliant achievement. You should all be proper proud of yourselves.

The improvement, teamwork, and effort shown over the last year has been class to see, and it really showed throughout the tournament. Keep working hard, supporting each other, and enjoying it — roll on the next couple of galas 😂⚽👏
