Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club is proud of its commitment to encouraging more girls to discover and enjoy the game of golf.
In May 2026 we welcomed 1st Prestwick Brownies to pilot a new Get Into Golf challenge, designed as a fun introduction to the sport.
This six-week programme combined sessions at the Brownie Hall and at our Club, where the girls had the opportunity to experience our practice bays, putting greens and practice nets.
The programme was devised by our Marketing Convener, Jim Paterson, and our Membership & Inclusivity Convener, Jane Belford, who also liaised with Scottish Golf, whose generous loan of equipment made the initiative possible. We are also grateful to our Assistant Professional, Mark Mason, and to two of our Junior members, Alice Jones and Orietta Pezzaioli, who enthusiastically supported the sessions.
Throughout the programme the Brownies learned the fundamentals of golf through a variety of fun activities, games and challenges, helping them build confidence while developing new skills.
As a special part of the challenge, the Brownies were invited to design a golf challenge badge. We received some fantastic entries, and the winning design was turned into an embroidered badge. This badge will be presented to the Brownies who completed the programme and will continue to be awarded to future participants.
We are delighted with the success of this pilot programme and look forward to continuing our partnership with Girlguiding South Ayrshire after the summer holidays, helping even more girls take their first steps into golf.
