🟡🔵MATCH REPORT🔵🟡

Saturday 12th September 2026
Glenburn MWFC vs Cambusdoon 2012s
The Oval 10:00am KO

A blustery day at The Oval, with a stronger south westerly wind 💨 than last weeks blowing at a steady 24mph from south to north across the pitch.

A stern test for the boys today against a quality side from an older age group in a friendly to keep the squad ticking over as we have a free week due to a bye in the first round the Scottish Cup.

The teams kick off and Cambusdoon have the strong wind at their backs in the first half.

🔵3 mins Glenburn win the ball in midfield and play to Zac Aiton who drives forward and sets up Lewis Taylor on the left whose shot goes just wide of the far post.

🟡13 mins 0-1 goal for Cambusdoon comes from a corner from our right that drops at the feet of a ruck of players in the 6 yard box and someone gets a toe on it to poke home ⚽️

🔵27 mins 0-2 Cambusdoon corner from our left met with a header from one of the tall Cambusdoon players high in the air ⚽️

🟡32 mins another corner, another goal for Cambusdoon taken from the right & met with another header 0-3 ⚽️ with Glenburn struggling to match the height & physicality of the older boys.

Half Time - and here’s hoping with the wind at their backs in the second half the boys get something out of this game as they have looked the better footballing team going forward but the corners and the wind in the first half have created havoc in our box.

🔵45 mins 0-4 Cambusdoon very much against the run of play as The Miners have been dominating the creative play this half. A long ball over the top and a lone Cambusoon player in the middle is free to run in on Lucas Stirling and he finishes well ⚽️

🟡58 mins Glenburn still competing well win a free kick 45 yards out and Sam MacPherson sends it in right onto the far post area and just wide with no takers.

🔵65 mins Fletcher McLurkin hits the post after good work from Rory Wilson tracking a lost cause keeps pressure on Cambusdoon and their throw in is won by Sam MacPherson who combines with Alex Craig to set up Fletcher for the shot from the edge of the box.

🟡69 mins a direct Sam MacPherson direct free kick is cleared by the keepers feet for a corner, and Glenburn maintain pressure in and around the Doon box until full time but the goal never came despites several shots which were blocked by the defenders.

Full time and a useful workout for all the lads, and very little difference between the sides despite the 0-4 score line apart from the height and physicality of the older Cambusdoon boys at corners which our shorter players were unable to deal with.

Thanks always to Eddie Wallace for the photos. Thank you for the game and all the best for the rest of the season to Cambusdoon 12s 🤝

🟡🔵NEXT MATCH🔵🟡

This weekend sees the first round of the Scottish Cup get underway. We’ve been given a bye for this round, so no Scottish cup game 😢

But we’ve managed to arrange a friendly against Cambusdoon 2012s. This should be a good test for the boys 💪🏻

The game kicks off at 10am on Saturday morning at the Oval. As always your support is most welcome ⚽️

🔵🟡WHAT A NIGHT!🟡🔵

Well… Saturday night was some laugh!🍻

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who came along to the Glenburn Miners 2013 Race Night and helped us raise a fantastic £3,081! 🎉👏

We had winners, losers, some questionable horse names, a mums horse race, plenty of shouting at the big screen and probably a few people who discovered they’re absolutely hopeless at picking a winner! 😂🐎

A huge shoutout to Mark Templeton & Gillian Paton Templeton for organising the whole night - from race sponsors, race cards, raffle prizes and even compering the full night 👏 💙

And of course, thank you to everyone who donated, sponsored, bought tickets, placed bets, bid in the auctions and generally emptied their pockets for the boys! 💷

Over £3000 raised is absolutely amazing and it’s all down to the brilliant support we get for these boys. ⚽ 💛

From all the Glenburn Miners 2013 Boys - THANK YOU! 🙌

Now that the hangovers have cleared…when is the next one? 😜🏇

🟡🔵MATCH REPORT🔵🟡

Saturday 5th September 2026
Glenburn MWFC vs Irvine Meadow
The Oval 10:30am KO

A fine sunny 😎 morning at St Ninians Park, better known as The Oval, with a south westerly wind gently blowing the corner flags as both teams took to the pitch, which looked to be in great condition for this encounter ✔️

Glenburn started on the front foot straight from kick with two blistering attacks down the left wing within the first 56 seconds of the match, both chances created as the ball was squared by Declan Carlyle across the face of the goal but there were no takers.

4 mins into the match and Irvine Meadow took the lead very much against run of play after a lapse in concentration at the back between two Glenburn defenders who failed to challenge for the ball and allowed the big Irvine Meadow striker to get onto it at the edge of the D ⚽️ and he lobbed an effort over the top of Lucas Stirling who had no chance, and he let his defenders know it!

One minute later however that boy Declan Carlyle storms down the left wing again as he crosses the ball the full width of the Medda box where Lewis Taylor is on hand about 10 yards out to fire the ball past the keeper ⚽️ making it 1-1

On 19 minutes Medda attack the Glenburn box and as the ball is cleared it hits an Irvine Meadow player's hand at the edge of our box, this action stalls the clearance and should have been a free kick to The Miners - however it's unclear whether the referee never saw it or played an advantage to Glenburn when there was none, but the ball was played back into the box and turned wide for a corner by Harry Templeton.

The resultant corner kick, which was wind assisted by the 13mph south westerly wind, was met by the head of a tall Medda player who headed strongly in just under the bar ⚽️ making the score 1-2 in favour of Medda & The Miners can feel well aggrieved about that one.

23 minutes and its disaster for Glenburn who looked to have been playing the best football from back to front, but were out done by a long ball forward through the central midfield area and the Medda striker, who may or may not have been offside, did well to control the ball and finish ⚽️ past the advancing Lucas Stirling.

We didn't need to wait long for an inspired Glenburn comeback though as on 25 minutes Robbie Douglas clears the ball well up field & Rory Wilson gets it under control and feeds Declan Carlyle on the left wing and he crosses for Alex Craig in the centre to slot home ⚽️ reducing the deficit. 2-3 and its game on.

On 28 minutes the equaliser arrives as Glenburn have a corner taken by Sam McPherson, Robbie Douglas makes contact with the ball trying to get a shot on goal from 10 yards & his effort is partially cleared to the edge of the box where Fletcher McLurkin is waiting and he drills a well-controlled shot low in to the keeper's bottom right corner ⚽️ making it the score 3-3 in an enthralling match.

The first half comeback is completed on 32 minutes when Declan Carlyle attacks down the left wing again to the edge of the box and crosses inside towards the penalty spot where Zac Aiton steps over the ball allowing it to run through to Alex Craig and he knocks home at the back post to score his second goal of the match ⚽️ putting The Miners ahead four goals to three.

Enter the second half and on 39 minutes a long kick out from Lucas Stirling is latched onto by Zac Aiton and he takes a stride forward before sending a shot just wide from distance.

Glenburn continue in the ascendancy through the early part of the second half but find themselves conceding another goal against the run of play on 49 minutes as Irvine Meadow find themselves with 2 versus 2 inside our box and their strikers combine well to give each other an opportunity for a shot on goal the second of which finds its way into the back of the Glenburn net ⚽️ making the score 4-4

Both teams are going for it now and it's end to end stuff in the final 20 minutes of the match. Glenburn get the breakthrough though on 62 minutes when another long ball through the middle is knocked on by Rory Wilson's header towards Zac Aiton breaking forward on the left-hand side of the pitch, staying just onside & able to latch on to the ball.

As the Irvine Meadow keeper advances well off his line, Zac tries a shot from distance which the Medda keeper manages to get some fingertips on but unfortunately for him and pleasingly for The Miners the ball still has enough pace to slowly cross over the goal line ⚽️ putting The Miners 5-4 in front with eight minutes to play.

Those eight minutes are usually pretty nervy affairs in such circumstances but the young Miners did well to contain the Irvine Meadow threat and almost made it 6 right at the death when Rory Wilson found the ball breaking to him after a Medda attack broke down and with all their men pushing forward Rory found himself just inside the Medda half with only the keeper to beat, who was playing sweeper keeper in a central midfield position. Rory tried a shot from over 45 yards which looked like it had the legs and direction to hit the target but just trundled off the post and the danger was cleared before the referee blew the whistle indicating full time.

What a game between the teams that finished first & second in the league last season doing battle once again in a thoroughly entertaining match, although it has to be said Glenburn made it difficult for themselves at a couple of the goals but well-done boys and it was then onto the main event - The GMWFC Race Night at the Miners Club in Prestwick.🐴🐎🐎🐎🐎🐴

🔵🟡MATCH REPORT🟡🔵

Saturday 29th August 2026
Valspar vs Glenburn MWFC
KGV Playing Fields 10:30am KO

🔵 3 mins early pressure and a chance for Valspar.

🟡 6 mins a foul on Alex Craig at the edge of the box, Sam MacPherson delivers the free kick into to the box and its knocked on for Harry Templeton to meet it on the half volley at the back post but it cannons off a defender covering that post.

🔵8 mins continued Glenburn pressure sees Tommy Stuart rattle the underside of the bar from 15 yards.
🟡15 mins Tommy Stuart heads forward to Caleb Keith who sends a nice ball to Alex Craig, who turns beautifully inside the box to lose his marker and finish low past the keeper 1-0 The Miners ⚽️

🔵25 mins a great move from Glenburn turning defence into a good goal scoring opportunity. Harry Templeton makes a sliding tackle to stop the Valspar attacker getting one on one against our goalie, Noah McDonald tidies up the loose ball, evades a challenge and finds Sam MacPherson who plays a great ball to Caleb Keith who controls well before passing to Rory Wilson and he set up Alex Craig whose final effort is somehow cleared off the line 🧤

🟡28 mins another great long range effort from Tommy Stuart goes just over.

🔵31 mins the Valspar no5 runs half the length of the pitch to the byeline, and cuts back to his team mate 12 yards from goal - but his effort goes well wide.

🟡Glenburn continue to create chances going forward and Valspar look dangerous when breaking on their right wing through no5, but it remains 1-0 The Miners as we go off at half time.

🔵Into the second half and on 47 mins Rory Wilson is played through on goal but his shot goes just wide.

🟡50 mins after some sustained Glenburn pressure for the first time in the half, Fletcher McLurkin has a good effort just go wide.

🔵The half wears on with neither team making many more chances at either end, until Lucas Stirling is eventually called into action withe two stunning saves 🧤

🟡The first comes around the 55 minute mark when he blocks a close range effort from his right with his legs to concede a corner which is cleared 🧤

🔵His second save around 65 minutes though helped ensure Glenburn secured all 3 points, a sweeping move from Valspar allowed them to get the ball out to their wee left winger and the ball sat up perfectly for him to strike, but Lucas Stirling got down well to his right and held the shot 🧤

🟡Valspar sensed blood though and kept Glenburn pinned in their own half for the final few minutes before the referee eventually blew for full time.

🔵A classic example of a game of two halves, but not a classic Miners performance in the second half as we gave away possession too easily, and found it difficult to make the right decisions in the final third when it mattered most.

🟡However 3 points secured ✅ a long post match chat in the dressing room and on to next week 🫡
