A big shout out for Josie, a coached runner who took on the Edinburgh marathon on Sunday. Normally more at home on a trail ultra, she went into the race looking to 'scratch the itch' of trying to get a PB on a road marathon. We've had to be pretty flexible during training due to time restraints on both training and recovery, so we've been focusing on what's really important and not trying to cram in too many sessions. She finished in a fantastic 3:29, a 3 minute PB and 3rd in her age category. She really had to dig deep on Sunday, particularly in the heat. But she's one of the hardest working athletes I've ever worked with, so I never doubted her willingness and ability to push when it mattered. Couldn't be happier for you Josie, 100% deserved and hopefully that itch is well and truly scratched

Penultimate week of training completed. Put in some good miles last week, with an emphasis on hiking. Finished the week off with a recovery day kayaking, swimming and spending time with friends at the lake. Feeling blessed to live where I do. Big final push this week before tapering and facing the mammoth job of packing the kit which currently seems to be breeding everywhere I look!

Day 2 of my Spine recce: Hadrian's Wall. Much more enjoyable than I expected, may not be so enthusiastic next time I visit! Loved the last couple of days out and about on our beautiful trails

What a great day spent doing a bit of Spine recceing in the Cheviots. Perfect conditions, barely anyone around, even saw lots of Cheviot goats, which eluded me last time I was here doing the Cheviot Goat Ultra. Some useful kit lessons learned. Looking forward to some more miles tomorrow along Hadrian's Wall.

This is Pete. He just completed his first 100 mile race at Chester 100 and got himself a gold buckle to boot. I've worked with Pete for 3 years now and he has done some incredible things in that time. But this has to be the best, not only because it was the furthest he's run, but also because it didn't come cheap. A previous DNF at the distance, he was determined to get it this time but after him working really hard, we had to reduce and adapt the final few months' training to accommodate lots of other stuff going on. But he did what he could, controlled the controllables and trusted in all the training that he'd completed over the previous months and years. And most importantly come race day, he kept his head in the right place and got it done. Well done Pete, you really earned this

Had the best long weekend out and about near home. Slow paced but decent mileage and elevation, full Spine kit with me, and some useful kit testing. Happy to be back in my trusty La Sportiva Prodigio after my brief and unsuccessful experiment with another shoe😆

What a weekend: Checkpoint duty on the . Such an honour to support the superstar athletes as they passed through on the long journey to Robin Hood's Bay. What a phenomenal effort from the team who put together such a great race on such short notice and with so few resources. I just love the ultra running community and how people come together to support each other. Then a run home along the shores of Derwentwater, with blue skies interspersed with crazy hail storms, and then some time spent trying to work out how to ram my Spine kit into the only bag that I feel comfortable with 😆. Sunday saw one of my coached runners complete the unofficial Dales Traverse in the most horrendous conditions. And another coached runner put in a gritty performance to take a well deserved second place at the Springtide 50k. Fantastic performances and I just love working with both of them.

Checkpoint 1 up and running, first few runners already through . Breaking my social media pause to celebrate the fantastic way the ultra running community has come together to make this happen
