On Saturday 23rd May the Jubilee Singles took place. The event was again sponsored by the Martin family.
32 players signed up for the day and were rewarded by a rare bit of sunshine.
The playing pool was gradually whittled down until the final two competitors were left standing. Craig Martin would take on Brian Bird in the final with Mr Martin edging it and winning the competition for the second time.
Last week saw the Martin ladies present a cheque for £700 to Ward 6 at the Western General. The money was raised by a raffle and donations.
Many thanks to the Martin family for the continued support of the event and the money they raise for charity.
Usual thanks to the green keepers and bar staff and Mags Thomson for running the event.

The Ruby and Nicol Bird Memorial took place yesterday.
The Presidents rink (Tommy Shepherd, Jake Porteous, Jocky Miller and Stuart Robertson) took on the Hearts Supporters Club (Ronnie Skinner, Hugh Martin, Mags Thomson and John Hogg) in the final with the Presidents rink taking the honours.
Who better than Brian Bird to say a few words about the day:

“Hi guys.
Just a wee post to say thank you to those who came along to play and support the Ruby and Nicol Memorial Day. Nice to have it back on the fixture calendar.
Thanks again to Pam and Gemma for the food, Tommy for prepping the green and Kerryann and her staff for keeping us hydrated. Also a big thanks to Chrissy who helped me massively in running the competition and also all the family members for taking care of the raffle. No doubt a decent day for the club bar wise and also for the British Heart Foundation, as thanks to everyone’s generosity,£250 will be donated to the charity.
Hope to see you all again next year. ❤️”

The weekend past saw some of our members in action.
Janet Fairnie and Mags Thomson were in action for East Lothian in the Ladies Scottish Cup competition. Jean Russel travelled with them as a reserve. They played against the hosts ultimately winning for the second time in three years.
Up at Aberdeen the East Lothian Deaf bowling team were competing for honours. Our own Leona Stewart was playing in the Ladies Pairs and her dad Lofty played in the men’s fours alongside Paul Conway
Leona and her partner were defeated in the final.
Lofty and Paul would go one better lifting the trophy against West Lothian.
Well done to all competitors 👏
