It was the Walton-le-dale Cricket Club Juniors Presentation Evening last night… and what a night it was!
As the junior section continues to expand from 2 teams just a few years ago, five teams this year and seven teams next year, there are more and more magical sporting moments to enjoy and celebrate.
Our U11s girls’ team winning the league, the U10 Softball Royals just missing out on the title, and very respectable finishing positions for our other teams are incredible given the number of children who are playing cricket for the first time. Our U11 and U13 Hardball teams are incredibly young, yet competing.
In short, it’s been a great year for the club!
Congratulations to all of our winners of awards, such as Parents’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and those who won the Haribo award for creating those one-off moments of skill and hilarity. Also, the Pete Ingham Trophy, for outstanding contributions to the club.
Thank you also to everyone who kindly donated to our raffle, including Curry’s Capitol Centre, Blackburn Hawks, Manchester Super Giants and of course our generous parents! It’s greatly appreciated and the money raised helps to provide more opportunities and more teams next year.
A huge thank you to Summer Carrington, from the Lancashire Cricket Club Academy, for coming to present the awards. You may have rightly celebrated the work of Leyland CC in your development, but you took it in good spirit when it was pointed out that we have beaten Leyland each time we’ve played them competitively this year!
Finally, thank you to all the volunteers who make cricket happen at the club. We couldn’t do it without you!
Volunteers, parents and children. Be proud!
