Yoga rooted in science, tradition and spirit ❤️ Ashtanga Yoga has a reputation as the ‘hard’ yoga, but although it is challenging it’s also incredibly therapeutic and last night was therapy for hips!
Last night’s Ashtanga yoga focused on placement of the femoral head (the top part of the thigh bone that’s ball shaped) in the acetabulum (the socket part of the pelvis that the femoral head sits in).
Ashtanga Yoga gives us a beautiful container in which the sequence is the same so that we can explore infinite detail without also having to think about which foot goes where! Last night was the hip joint. The largest weight-bearing joint in the body.
We played with finding where the femur head is situated in the acetabulum and how to centre it in each asana. We all have patterns, in yoga ‘samsara’ and some of these cause us physical and / or emotional pain.
When we have a physical pattern, such as a femural head that’s not centring in the socket it can start to cause irritation, that’s the body asking us to make a change. So, that was our focus.
I could almost hear the intense focus throughout the practice.
Though the class was focused on a very specific part of body, it was rooted in the essence of yoga - loving enquiry with an intention to free ourselves of poisoned conditioning and nurture strength, flexibility and balance in body and mind so that we can return to our true nature - peaceful, connected bliss 💫 Blooming difficult to be at peace if you’re hip is telling you constantly that it’s hurting and it wants you to change something!
In yoga we learn to listen, to witness with curiosity and to experiment with change.
See you on the mat lovely beings xx
