A great day at the Global Kapap Association Summer Camp a few weeks ago
I spent the day teaching instructors and their students knife defence. I really enjoy teaching knife defence as it always causes a bit of controversy and gets people asking questions and really thinking.
Many martial arts instructors argue that you should not be teaching students how to fight against a knife and the only valid option is to run away. I find this a a very narrow minded view.
Should your first instinct be to run ???
100% it should but what do you do if you can't???
There are a number of reasons that may stop you from turning and getting on your toes, it doesn't matter the reason the fact is you can't so you need to have a viable plan B!!!
Hence why I believe you have to teach students how to deal with a knife threat or knife attack, if you don't your leaving them defenceless and there are holes in your self defence system
