This explains why I am always talking about pointing and flexing the toes and ankles ! On the mat you often see the toes over working in Roll Up or Spine Stretch. They flex back and the ankles kinda just sit there.

SOOO does it matter?

Yeah, it does. And, I know it's hard to keep those little piggy's long but the more you can the stronger you'll get. Because when we create tension in the toes we lose connection in our center.

We point in Pilates to keep the length in the front of the leg.

The flex (when done well) helps activate the back of the leg and often anchor our legs into the mat.

So when you point double check it's not just the ankle over doing it. That the point moves through the foot too.

And then when you flex that it's not the toes taking over but the full ankle.

Funny how our bodies like to cheat!
