As we come to the end of the season we want to thank Elite Competitions for being our main club and front of shirt sponsor.

Your support during the challenging times of the Cottam redevelopment has been essential and we have loved having you involved.

As husbands/boyfriends are returned to their partners and that half eaten sandwich goes into the shed in a neglected cricket bag to be discovered next season we conclude our season.

The firsts fell to defeat in a low scoring game against Leyland CC 4ths. A solid 35 from R Gleave was the stand out in our 99/9 but the opposition reached their total with a strong batting performance and the loss of just two wickets.

The Sunday team finished with a win against Walton Le Dale Sunday 1sts. Outstanding bowling from J Henriques (3/5) and P McCluskie (3/25) reduced the opposition to all out for 110. Strong knocks from J Moss (30) and D Carter (21) saw us home with 5 wickets to spare.

2026. That'll do, pig. That'll do.

With the supermarkets getting the stocking fillers out its time to wind down the cricket season in style.

Our first team conclude their affairs with a visit to 4ths on Saturday.

With the seconds already on the beach the Sunday team open up on Cottam one final time to play host to Sunday 1sts.

Go well men.

As Charles Dickens once wrote 'All's well that ends well'.

The first team's game was abandoned due to unforeseen circumstances and thank you to for their support and understanding.

Our seconds were visiting 2nds and after a tricky start with the ball an Oliver Twist saw O Hankey pick up two wickets in quick succession and from there the wickets were spread around to restrict the opposition to a competitive total. Sadly there were Hard Times at the crease in the response and despite a spirited late stand from R Shuttleworth (30) and J Hughes (2) we could not get over the line.

Sunday came with Great Expectations as we hosted the travelling team for our annual friendly. We opened the batting and scores from S Clayton (42), S Taylor (28), P McCluskie (25) and J Bamford (21) saw us post 146.

In the Gregson batting response we saw:

O Hankey demand and get a three man slip cordon and a gully.
D Carter come on as sub field in clothes that made him look like Tom Hanks at the end of Big.
J Hughes deciding to stop match winning runs with his crotch.
J Bamford create 5 catching opportunities in one over and not take a wicket.
Several players discovering that 2 pizzas and chocolate cake at tea made chasing boundary bound balls less than fun.

When the dust settled we had won the game by one run. Until next year Gregson!

One weekend to go!

We move towards the end of the season with three fixtures this weekend.

Our first team welcome firsts to Fortress Cottam looking to bounce back from last week.

Our 2nds team are on the road to School Lane to take on 2nds hoping for kinder weather.

Finally, the lesser spotted Chairmans XI take on our annual friendly with the frankly brilliant Gregson CC friendly team at Cottam Hall.

Stay dry lads.

A little like Noah, the Wyre teams did their best work before the rains came.

A little more sheltered from the conditions the firsts slipped to defeat against Eccleston. Bowling first, and for the 2nd weekend in a row, S Pollard delivered exceptional figures this time with a 5/33 to restrict the home side. Despite several players getting starts we fell nine runs short of target but congrats to both teams for the completed game.

Also attempting to play Saturday, our 2nds had an incomplete game against Blackpool 4ths. Already a T20, Wyre restricted the opposition to 103 with some tight bowling and fielding. Sadly weather meant that the game could not continue but the team did get a Brian Hankey batting masterclass for their trouble.

The Sundays too fell foul of an incomplete game. However batting first we saw both J Bamford (54) and Jamie Moss (60) deliver half centuries laying a platform that was never able to be used.

GAME 258. FIFTY NUMBER ONE.

Mossy brings up the first senior half-century of his career today against St Annes. 👏🏻
