🔴⚽ Poulton Reds U10’s – End of Season Review ⚽🔴
As another season comes to an end, it’s only right to look back at what has been a fantastic year for this group of lads.
Football has a funny way of testing you, and this season certainly did just that.
⚽️ Phase 1 ⚽️
We started Phase 1 exactly where we wanted to be – in the top division. The results didn’t always go our way, but anyone who watched us knew we were more than competitive. Week after week we pushed some of the best teams all the way, with far too many games decided by a single goal. It would’ve been easy for heads to drop, but to the lads’ credit they never stopped working, learning or believing.
⚽️ Phase 2 ⚽️
Phase 2 proved to be the turning point.
Dropping into the league below gave the boys the chance to rediscover their confidence, and they grabbed it with both hands. Suddenly the football was flowing, the smiles were back, and the belief within the squad grew week by week. We won most games, scored goals for fun and, before long, we’d booked our ticket straight back to the top division.
⚽️ Phase 3 ⚽️
The real test came in Phase 3.
Could we take that confidence back into the top league?
The answer was a resounding yes.
The lads carried everything they’d learned into the toughest division and showed exactly why they belong there. They didn’t just compete—they established themselves towards the top end of the league and became a side that nobody looked forward to playing. That’s a huge credit to every single player.
Looking ahead to next season, with a number of strong teams moving up an age group, there’s a good chance we’ll have a target on our backs.
That’s a nice problem to have. It means teams will be looking at us as one to beat.
Tournament Season
We kept the tournament diary a little lighter this year, entering just four tournaments throughout May.
The outcome?
🏆 4 tournaments.
🥈 4 finals.
🏆 1 trophy.
Not bad going at all!
The best part? Finally winning a penalty shootout!
After what feels like years of penalties treating us like their favourite punchline, it was brilliant to see the lads hold their nerve when it mattered most.

More Than Results
Of course, football isn’t just about league tables and trophies.
This season has been about development.
It’s been about watching players grow in confidence, seeing friendships become stronger, and watching a group of boys become a proper team.
One of the biggest lessons we’ve all learned is that when we focus on what we can control—our attitude, our effort, our teamwork—and stop worrying about who we’re playing, the football takes care of itself.
And when these lads play with confidence?
Some of the football they’ve produced this season has genuinely been a joy to watch.
As coaches, that’s all we can ask for.
