Solent Mariners travelled up to Farnham Park to start the Let the Boys Play Series.

The day started strong with a 24-7 win over Bracknell Scorchers before rounding off the round robin with two more wins against Raiders (14-11) and The Parrots (15-13). This put the Mariners top of their group heading into the semi-finals.

Mariners came up against the Rattlesnakes in the semi-final and put on an impressive offensive display winning the semi-final 23-8, putting them into the final.

A tight final against Reading had the teams neck and neck throughout. The Mariners were able to pull ahead 11-8 before securing the three outs to win the cup and remain undefeated.
Overall a strong start to the series for the Solent Mariners.

As May comes to an end, we can take a first look at the Division standings. The Itchen Knicks and Chichester Falcons are undefeated at the top of Division One. In Division Two, it looks like it will be a closely run season as the Hurricanes lead the way narrowly with the Redbridge Raiders and Southampton Spitfires close behind with games in hand.

Congratulations to our overall winners and recipients of the “Moonraker” trophy: the Solent Sluggers. The Itchen Knicks win overall runners-up. The other winners were the Dodgers who lifted the silver “Sky” trophy, the Krakens who came away with the “Royal” trophy and the Southampton Spitfires who took home the “Gallant” trophy.

Thanks to the Swindon Softball League’s Just Locos for visiting us today and rounding off our numbers to 12 teams.
