The final aquatics event of last week was the Inter Service Swimming Championships.
Always a fiercely contested competition with each Service counting their winning points throughout, this year saw the RAF win in both the Men’s and Women’s categories. The first Men’s win since 2019 and first Women’s win since 1997.
A truly fitting achievement in their centenary year.👏🏼
The RN were chasing them the whole way, coming in 2nd in the Men’s and 3rd in the Women’s categories.
The event saw many outstanding individual wins from RN athletes, and a great overall performance from both squads. Comprising both returning and many new athletes to the RN, the championships were a culmination of both an overseas training camp to Gibraltar and a holding camp in Portsmouth to prepare for the competition.
The final event for the Inter Service Aquatics Championships 2026 will be Open Water in Sep 26.
Although swimming may have finished for Inter Services, training and preparation continues for the numerous masters events on the calendar, including the prestigious National Masters Short Course Championships in Sheffield in October.
RN Aquatics will be holding a number of training weekends in preparation, so keep an eye out for details on how to sign up.
There are always opportunities to get involved in swimming whether you’re a seasoned competitive swimmer, or just get in for a few lengths in your local pool.
