Wednesday 25th September is National Fitness Day, a chance to highlight and raise awareness of the importance of leading a healthier and active lifestyle.

At PortsmouthTRX we are supporting National Fitness Day by offering a free class to anyone between Wednesday 25th September and Saturday 28th September.

The TRX Suspension Trainer is one of my favourite pieces of equipment. It's versatility means you can train almost anywhere, home, outdoors, on holiday and it provides a fantastic full body workout for all abilities.

I love putting TRX into my personal training sessions but also teaching it as a group exercise class, which I teach every Monday and Wednesday night at PortsmouthTRX.

When we think about strong, we think about someone or something that can exert a lot of power or force.

In fitness we automatically associate strong with the heavier we can lift, push or pull.

But to be able to lift, push or pull the greatest force we can, we need to be strong in our mind, in our belief that we can achieve it.

A number of my clients are female, and when we first meet I have a few benchmarks which I use to assess their current level of fitness and where they would like to be.

The press up is one of my favourites' and more often than not I'm met with the words ' I can't do a press up', or 'I can't lower myself that far' or 'I can't do a full press up, but I would like to'. Most of the time it's not that my clients can't do a press up, it's their belief and strength of mind which stops them, a fear they will face plant the mat. However, after a few weeks of training they master a full press up, with the belief and strength of mind that they can, and just say how many, rather than I need to be on my knees.

We are all physically stronger than we think, and more importantly mentally stronger than we believe. We just need to be pushed outside of our comfort zone every now and again and soon the boundaries of our comfort zone move.

Lives are busy, whether it's running round after children, work commitments, social commitments, caring for loved ones.

How many people get caught up in the rat race of life and forget to find time for themselves?.

I've been like that for the last 18 months, looking after my husband following his stroke, running a fitness studio, personal training my clients, trying to exercise myself and running a house. From when I wake in the morning till the light goes out at night I rarely stop.

I wouldn't change things, my husband is my world and I will do anything in my power to help his recover and gain some of his old life back. I also love training my clients and running PortsmouthTRX it keeps me sane, and is maybe a little release of other pressures!!.

But days and then weeks go by and I find myself coming up with excuses as to why I haven't taken 30 minutes to myself to do something I enjoy.

What people enjoy will be different for everyone, but for me it was a 30 minute run, when the streets were quiet and I could just daydream as I listened to my gasps for breath.

Summer officially starts on Friday (21st June).

I've got my fingers crossed that the weather gets the message and starts to brighten up with a hope that summer dresses, shorts and vest t-shirts maybe able to be worn this year.

Don't feel quite ready to bare your shoulders or legs, then drop me a message as I still have some availability for personal training during the days, limited evenings and at weekend's.

You can train on your own or with a friend, and I will tailor a programme around your goals and targets.

It's also not too late to start planning for next year. I already have a number of brides who are starting their preparations now for their hen do's and wedding next year.

The brain is a powerful tool.....

we are all stronger than we think..
capable of pushing ourselves further than we thought..
able to achieve what we thought was impossible..

Exercise provides so many direct benefits for the brain:
-increases production of neurochemicals that promote brain cell repair
-improves memory
-lengthens attention span
-boosts decision making skills
-promotes growth of new nerve cells and blood vessels
- improves multi-tasking and planning

As well as indirectly decreasing stress, improving mood, improves quality of sleep and decreased anxiety.

So why do we find it so hard to motivate ourselves, we know our goals, we know the benefits of exercise and healthy eating and yet still struggle.

2 brilliant and amazing new classes from PortsmouthTRX, with an awesome instructor, a perfect way to kick start your January fitness goals

Starting Tuesday 15th January, 2 new brilliant classes on offer at PortsmouthTRX

At 6pm, we will be kicking off with an hour of Step and Sculpt followed by 7.15pm 45 minute spin, both with our amazing new instructor Amanda.

Step and Sculpt: is an excellent all over old school step workout focussing on simple choreography with a high end fat calorie spend .
Structured for all levels of fitness combining cardio training with muscle strength and endurance - shaping for all those troublesome areas with a particular focus on intensive ab and core work at the end of the session. A dynamic, athletic, safe and effective programme with that all important feelgood factor!

Spin: This high energy indoor group cycling class will get you melting down those unwanted fat calories. Riding cardio intervals is as effective and energetic as you want to make it, suitable for ALL levels: however, you will be pushed to achieve and exceed your cardio goals!
With a fab variety of music that you will love - we dare you to come ride the calorie killer!!

Classes at PortsmouthTRX are starting to fill up, with everyone fired up to hit their fitness goals for 2019.

PortsmouthTRX is a small personal training and group exercise class facility in Farlington, which offers high quality classes and instruction in a fun, friendly and social setting. Class numbers are kept low to ensure quality and are suitable for all abilities.

Exciting times at PortsmouthTRX with a new class timetable for January, and some awesome new classes.

PortsmouthTRX is a friendly, social club that has highly experience and enthusiastic instructors who want to help you achieve your goals at affordable prices.

Your familiar favourites are still there, but also some new and exciting classes which we hope you will enjoy.

It starts on Monday with
6pm Spin - 30 mins
6.40pm Spin - 30 mins
7.20pm - TRX Body Blast - 30 mins
7.50pm - TRX Core Strength & Stretch - 30 mins

TRX Body Blast is a high intensity class that uses the TRX Suspension Trainer to strengthen, shape and tone your entire body. This workout directly focuses on key body parts before a high intensity finisher. This will challenge and transform your body.

TRX Core Strength & Stretch uses the TRX Suspension Trainer and combines core strength and flexibility. This workout will challenge core stabilising muscles, whilst enhancing flexibility.
