We have taken over the old Sainsbury’s site in our city centre! Back story: Currently the community of Portsmouth and surrounding areas have no undercover wheeled sports facility. The Undercover Skatepark Project is the idea of local skateboarder Jacob Skinner who along with many others has a dream of taking his hobby to a new level by teaching youngsters, creating a safe user-friendly grass root
s skatepark for all to come and use. With the weather being so temperamental and the nearest indoor skatepark being over an hours drive away this will be a fantastic opportunity for the city. While there are a handful of small skateparks around, none of them can be used in wet weather. Skateboarding has been announced to be an Olympic sport as from 2020. This will be a purpose-built facility, a great space for future Olympians to train. The USP Skate Academy has now launched with skate lessons being run in and around the Portsmouth area. Vouchers can be purchased from Bored of Southsea. 10% discount will be given for cluster bookings of 5 lessons or if you buy a full set up from the store. The hunt for a location continues with 2 sites now being considered. A big push is coming in 2020 with huge support from many local businesses, politicians and community members.
