Harvey broke his cue at the ferrule and notwithstanding 'banging a great blue in and out of baulk off two cushions to split the pack perfectly' it needed a little TLC. He's had the cue for 13 years and I'm not sure if it's had any treatment or oil in that time, but it certainly hasn't for a while. As you can see, lots of the grain-filler had come out and the lack of nourishment meant that the wood was dry and brittle - I'm sure a major contributing factor to the damage. Ferrule was replaced with minimal length lost and the cue had a good refurb with grain filler and a damn decent oiling. Capped off with a Pro Spin Cue Tips. Marc at The Snooker Crazy Shop did a great video and explanation recently about the upkeep you need to do on your cues and what he doesn't know about maintaining and repairing cues isn't worth knowing. Do check his FB, Youtube, etc out. Grain fill and oiling periodically are essential or serious and irreparable damage can - and probably will - occur. That's why I always give every cue that comes in a few coats of oil and grain fill as needed, to stop the wood becoming brittle and worn away. Next time you have your tip changed, make sure whoever does it gives your cue a bit of preventative maintenance, I'm sure most decent folk won't even charge you for it! Anyway, Harvey is back up and running and may there by many more amazing blues!
