Big happy birthday to one of our sponsors Set In Stone
Set In Stones official 10th birthday today 🍺
I was 22 when we decided to do this. Lee was nearly 29, with a newborn and I’d only been tiling ten months, and I was in Lee’s ear about going out on our own because of the private work we had lined up.
Little did we know that within a year, we’d go from tiling kitchen splashbacks to hotel bathrooms — from £200 jobs to £10k jobs, from expecting to earn a few hundred quid a week to turning over seven figures four years on the bounce. From being just us two to having between 15-20 subbies working full time.
People used to tell us, “Get to year five and things will get easier.”
Back then, two years felt impossible and five years felt like a dream — let alone ten.
There's been hundreds of times it would have been easier to jack it in, but we carried on!
We've worked weeks on end without a day off we've done the ghost shifts through one day into the next.
We’ve done unbelievable jobs. We’ve messed jobs up.
We’ve had clients with us since October 2015, and we’ve lost clients after one job.
We’ve had lads with us from day one, and we’ve lost real good lads after a year or two.
We’ve won contracts we had no right to win, and lost contracts because we were too small — or not experienced enough.
We’ve never claimed to be perfect, or to be the best tiling contractor on planet earth, but weve certainly always tried our best!
After 10 years, we can’t thank our friends, family, our team past and present and clients enough for helping us make it this far. Here’s to the next 10 years 🍺
If owning a business was easy, everyone would do it.
Thank you.
Up the Stone.
Cheers,
George & Lee
