Plymouth White GBR Race Team A group of ex-plymouth uni sailors taking the alumni team racing scene by storm!

Big ol' congratulations to our constant 1 aka William J Taylor aka ya boi W***y T for being elected as the new RS200 Class Chairman!!

Since his landslide election result, we have been LITERALLY inundated with our fans requesting for the new 200 head honcho to lead by example and start as he means to go on by doing a shoey!

As always, W***y T is never one to disappoint his fans, so he WILL be shoe-ing a pint imminently - watch this space! ๐Ÿ‘ž๐Ÿป๐Ÿ†๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธโ›ต

First event as an alumni team - check!

That's right fans, with a new team racing season beginning, we kicked it off in style at our home turf with the Plymouth Pasty 2018!

After making the long trek to Plymouth, we converged on local watering hole "the SU" where all manner of beverages were consumed, and all manner of tunes bopped to.
The following morning, an advance party was sent to roadford to attend the first race (1,2,5 thanks very much) before Richard & Izzy, punctual as ever, turned up in time for the next set of races!
Unfortunately, our "constant 6" was complaining of eye trauma, perhaps one eye shot too many? So emergency first aid was applied and a very fashionable eyepatch was born!
Luckily, W***y T & Marko were on blistering form with plym white old boi Lightning Mc Queen and supercrew Catherine Hunt, and the results rolled in - shockingly no 1,2,6's!! :O

Finishing the day on 5 wins from 5 races, the team headed back to Plymouth for the excitement of a curry social and another night of frivolity!

Sunday dawned, and all sailors were greeted by some conditions at roadford, hefty gusts and hungover sailors are not the best mix, so the decision was made to abandon racing for the day.
This left prizegiving, and with 2 teams on 100% wins it came to a first place tie-break, which.........we lost :(
Congrats to Exetah Red, they'd clearly been putting in hours of research into the 1,2,6 combo and it paid off!

Big up to our Plym White alumnususes, Madeleine Watkins & Nick Devereux and everyone at University of Plymouth Sailing and Powerboating Club top notch event, thoroughly enjoyed by all, bring on Pasty 2019!!

We've finally recovered!
Last weekend was the LEGENDARY Southport 24 Hour Race which Plymouth White GBR Race Team (representing University of Plymouth Sailing and Powerboating Club) attended with all the gusto of a 10 year old going to a year 6 disco!

With a GP14 team AND an Enterprise team, Plymouth Uni was poised and spectators held their collective breath to see if the sailors could pull off the incredible and come away with all of the university prizes!

After providing the locals with a 3 hour of display of tent faffing, the big yellow beast was up and predrinking could commence - then it was into the marquee to get schwifty to the absolute bangers thrown out by DJ Enterprise (Steve Blackburn)
At about 3am, the teams converged for pre-race nourishment at our new team sponsors, McDonald's! ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŸ

Saturday morning dawned, with a less than forecast breeze helping the sailors round the course. The wind was light for the first 21.5 hours of the race before blowing up at 0830 on the Sunday to leave Plym White's W***y T, crewed by Stu Harris to smash out the last 3 and a bit hours in the GP, and the best breeze Southport 24 has seen in years!

After sitting in the low twenties for the majority of the race, W***y T & Stu smashed their final shift and the GP team finished 17th Overall, 1st University and 1st University GP14!

Meanwhile, in the Enterprise team, after some ups and downs throughout the race, the speed demon pairing of Robin Jones & Joe White (AKA Sven) also put in a final stint and a half to finish in 40th overall, and more importantly 1st University Enterprise!!

Thanks to WLYC 24 Hour Race for putting on such a dank event, one of our highlights of the sailing year!

After the excitement of the GP World's, it was on to the RS 200 Nationals for Nicky D. At the 200's he had Sarah Jarman crew for him. As expected the other southern members of Plym White also joined in the pursuit of getting a 1,2,6 result. Marko and Catherine Hunt, and of course Madeleine Watkins with W***y T. Fortunately for Will it was not the skiing season anymore so Midge couldn't duck out of this event.

What was the best bit about the RS 200's? Racing or Socials?
Well, when a 116 boat fleet finishes in just 6 minutes first to last after a 50-minute race... The racing was horrifically close with a duck on the first beat costing 15 places!

And the socials? Well, it was a normal Wednesday for uni sailors with sailing before a huge night of fancy dress with drum and bass with drums on top!

Racing performance:
Nicky D and Sarah finished 30th (better than in GP's, rumour has it he may join this class now ๐Ÿค”)
W***y T and Midge finished 35th (Had to hold up the social reputation of Plym White)
Marko and Cat finished 63rd (and lost to his brother ๐Ÿ˜ฎ) but its all good Cat won the best convoy picture on the way down, managed to win a water pistol (or is it a rum pistol?)
Could we next year get the full complement of Plym WHite at the 200 nationals?

Now time to hone our GP and change over skills for the 24hr race this weekend. We hope to keep you updated with our progress

Big up to our fandom and sponsors, we know you live for these updates and today its a big un'!

We've recently had great success at the GP14 worlds, ex-keen-fresher Nicky D came away with a nawty 36th, despite getting into a boxing match with his crew!
Richard & Izzy almost finished in the position that every sailor dreams of but unfortunately were too quick for their own good and ended the championship in 68th

Rich & Izzy are also in the mix to be chosen as the new cover photo of the GP14 class association page so be sure to head over and SAD react to the post linked in the comments!

Also, massive good luck to our buoys travelling to the 200s next week: W***y T, Marko, and Nicky D are all gonna smash it - here's to a plym white 1,2,6 in every race!

Congrats to Plym White's very own Richard & Izzy for coming 2nd overall in the Graduate Nationals 2018!!

Evidently, the extensive training in fireflies paid off and the pair secured 2nd on countback after some tough competition on the water.

Dissertation? COMPLETED IT MATE
Our fabulous helms; Constant 1, Marky Mark Trap and the Big olโ€™ 6 (no prizes for guessing who that is) have reached the pinnacle of undergraduate achievement.

Huge congratulations to the boys for their hard work, apparently University is about more than team racing?
