l interaction to many members of all ages & abilities. Registered with the 'CASC' (Community Amateur Sports Clubs) Registration number GB-CASC-434077c8. The Club offers friendships that can last a lifetime & its relative low impact sport opens the game up to a wide range of ages & abilities. The Club plays in the County League, South Dorset League & Ladies League competitions as well as playing friendly matches with local & not so local teams. We also play internal club leagues & competitions culminating in our annual presentation evening at the end of the Year. Our friendly members not only run the club, but also maintain the playing green which has had many favourable comments regarding its upkeep & condition. This is all thanks to our dedicated volunteer Green Team. Please contact us if you would like to know more or if you would like to have a go at playing Bowls yourself. There is no obligation to Join the Club but to use our playing green, you must be a Member or by prior arrangement with the Club. Please leave a message and we will get back to you.

Portland Victoria Bowling Club is delighted to announce that our very own Paul Honnor has been selected as President for the South Dorset Bowls Association for 2026.

Paul is pictured accepting the chain of office from outgoing President Sheena Willis. Sheena was an exemplary President and Paul has big shoes to fill.

Paul joined Portland Victoria Bowling Club in 2022 and quickly became a firm favourite within the Club and also at the many Clubs around Dorset. When Paul joined us, he was quickly put into the SDBA and the County league. This was quite a daunting prospect for Paul as he had not played many games and would be the first to admit that he did not play particularly well, but with the guidance and support from all the members of the Club, Paul quickly became a very good Bowler.

Recently, Paul has been captain of many of our friendly matches and conducted himself well. His infectious demeanour rubs off on everyone he meets, and he is also a talented Home Baker which is another feather in our Club's cap. Paul is now our Friendlies Secretary and is doing a fine job.

All of us here at Portland Vic are immensely proud of what Paul has achieved in his five years and we hope his commitment to the club will continue for many years to come.

Congratulation Paul! Well deserved!

Well Ladies and Gents... that's a wrap for the season. This little club of our is still showing that we are a force to be reconned with. Of course we did not have the same success as last year, and none of us should have expected it to be, but we still showed our talents, our drive and most of all, our commitment to each other.

We won the Men's SDBA Div 1 (Again) by 11 points.

Our Ladies team came Second in the SDBA Wednesday League. Missing out only on aggregate shots.

The Ladies also coming 3rd in the SDBA Friday League.

Sadly the Men were relegated from their first venture in the County Championship. We were not there to make up the numbers, we were there on merit. So, it is a new goal for us to bounce back next season.

We had a very successful two wood singles comp (Ken Bryan) and a lovely lunch thanks to our secretary Kevin and all who helped-out on the day. Stuart Scourfield being the overall winner there.

The Ladies did really well in this and it was great to see Grace Evans in the final.

Secretary Kevin Vincent won the President's Cup this year in Dorchester after playing top opposition.

As for our own internal club competitions, there were some superb matches being played and excellent bowls all round.

As for the playing Green... It has been fantastic! And NOW? after all the bowls we have played on it... it STILL Looks as good as when we first started. This is down to the dedication of the guys who spent so much time on it... Voluntarily, and there are not many of them!

We had a number of new members this year, and they have fitted-in really well and hit the ground running. All improving each time they play.

We also had a number of visiting teams playing us in some friendly matches, we always enjoying welcoming new friends and having some fun along the way.

So, what's next for our little Club? Well, we have our AGM coming-up and to end the year, we will have our annual presentation evening, where the successful winners/Runners-up will receive their trophies and we can get together for this fun social evening.

For 2026 we will have another Open Weekend, so please watch-out for our publicity and hopefully, you too, can come and see what this wonderful sport is all about, and how friendly this little club is.

I would like to thank you all of our members for their continued support for the club. If there was ever a sense of belonging, it is right here a PVBC.

Here's to 2026!

After thinking we had completed all of our friendly matches for this year, we were approached by Churchdown Village Bowls Club in Gloucestershire who were playing in our area. We obliged and welcomed them to Portland yesterday. Sadly, the weather was not very favourable and having only managing to get around 8 ends in, we all called it a day and headed back to the club house to dry out and have some refreshments and our obligatory Raffle. It was a pleasure to host our new friends and we look forward to playing them again maybe next season. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Today we played our very own 2 wood singles competition in memory of Club Stalwart Ken Bryan. 24 members played from 10am this morning and whittled it down to just two. Grace Evans and Stuart Scourfield. It was a good final watched by many of our members and ultimately the winner was Mr Stuart Scourfield.

It was a great day all round coupled with a fine lunch around 1pm. The tournament was enjoyed by older members and our new members who for some, was their first go at a Club Competition.

A long but rewarding day. Congratulations everyone in particular to Grace and Stuart for making it to the final.

Image:- Our happy Bowlers from Devizes Bowls Club

That is a wrap for our Friendly Matches this year, and we could not have wished for better visitors to finish it off. The ladies and Gents from Devizes Bowls Club were delightful, and we really enjoyed their company. The following day, Devizes played our near neighbours at the Portland Borstal Officers Bowling Club. I am sure that they too, had as much fun and laughter as we did.

Our Men's and Ladies leagues still continue though, as does our County and domestic Competitions. And lets not forget, our annual neighbourly competition where we play the 'Borstal Officers Club' in the esteemed and much awaited 'Portland Trophies' πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†
The Portland Trophies are eagerly awaited by both teams, and whilst the competition to win the trophies, is based on a Friendly/Competitive nature, the rewards are not only gained by the winning of silverware, but also... the bragging rights.

So, a lot more Bowls to play before the season ends. We are still looking for new members, and anyone is welcome to come and have a go with us, to see if you would like to apply for membership to our friendly successful Club.

After a fun afternoon Playing our friends from Swanage Bowls Club yesterday, and notwithstanding all the Bowls that we have to play this week, such as leagues and other competitions, we again detract slightly from our day to day Bowls this Saturday (28th June 2025 @ 2pm) where we play our fourth and final friendly of the season.

We are delighted to welcome our Wiltshire neighbours from Devizes Bowls Club. We hope they have a good time with us, and we look forward to their company. Hoping you enjoy your visit to the Isle & Royal Manor or Portland.
