This coming Wednesday 10th June sees the 2nd Round of the Over 70’s tournament. After the opening fixtures it’s Abbeymead leading the table, Portishead just a point behind and plenty of other teams in the mix.

As usual kick-off is at 10.30am and spectators can enjoy all the action at Portishead Town FC, Bristol Road BS20 6QG. Please note anyone entering the 3G pitch area itself must be wearing moulded plastic studs.

Parkinson's Walking Football Festival - this Saturday! ⚽

The local Parkinson's community are invited to come and support the SW Parkinson's Walking Football Festival in Portishead on Saturday 6 June. There will be family entertainment, refreshment stands and some fun football activities to try out.

Come along and cheer on the players at our first Parkinson's walking football tournament in the South West! We have 12 teams playing with players from all over the South West.

ON THE CUP TRAIL…
A big assignment for Clevedon & District 60’s in Round 2 of the WFA National Cup this Tuesday 2nd June. They’ve been drawn away to Swindon in a repeat of last season’s Regional Final, in which Clevedon eventually won on penalties.

It’s a 6.30pm kickoff at New College Swindon, New College Drive, Swindon SN3 1AH

A perfect start for Clevedon & District in Thursday’s opening round of the Hutton Moor Over 65’s Summer League. Three straight wins sees the team leading the table by six points.

On a baking hot day Clevedon began with a 1-0 victory against Abbeymead, John Walter getting the goal. This was followed by a 2-1 win over Taunton, John Walters again on target plus a Nigel Woods left-foot finish. A couple of James Hobbs strikes saw the day end with a 2-0 triumph versus Western Rebels.

A superb day’s work. Managers Dave Richens and Angelo Micciche thanked the squad for their hard work and effort in such challenging conditions. Thanks also to Richard Orr for being official photographer and supporter on the day.

Clevedon & District 65’s are back in action this Thursday 28th May in the opening round of the Hutton Moor Summer League. Victorious in the Winter League the lads will be looking to get away to a good start.

Kick off is from 12.30pm at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, Hutton Moor Road, Weston Super Mare BS22 8LY. Spectators will be very welcome to cheer the team on

It was brutally hot for the opening round of the Over 50’s on Sunday. Nonetheless the eight teams on show produced plenty of excitement and good football. At the end of the proceedings it was unbeaten Peasedown leading the way with Portishead three points behind in 2nd.

Clevedon & District fielded two teams. Team 1 enjoyed an unbeaten day starting with a 2-0 win over Nailsea, two Andy Rankine goals. Next a 3-1 win over C&D2, Mike Pope, Paul Rossiter and James De Bude all on target. Andy Rankine scored again in a 1-1 draw with Portishead. Two further 1-1 draws, against Cwmbrân Celtic with Mike Pope scoring and Paul Giles claiming the goal versus Peasedown.

Team 2 opened with two Mark Fairhurst goals in a 2-1 victory over Weston Super Mare. Mark Fairhurst scored again in that 1-3 loss to C&D1. It was 1-1 against Nailsea, Matt Gillett equalising. Next a 0-3 defeat to a very strong Portishead before recovering for a well managed 1-0 win over Exeter with a goal from Nigel Woods.

Great effort and commitment by both Clevedon & District squads, pictured below. Well done to all the teams who contributed to a great day’s action played in very challenging conditions. Also thanks to the team of referees, the organisers and volunteers on the day, the spectators and Portishead Town for their support and excellent facilities.

HOW PROUD ARE WE?
Three of our players - Steve Marriott, John Skinner and Gerry Thompson - yesterday took part in trials for the England Over 80’s trials at Evesham. Fantastic job fellas and fingers crossed 🤞.

There’s more action to enjoy this Sunday 24th May as the Over 50’s tournament gets underway. Eight teams, including two from Clevedon & District, will be battling it out for the title across three rounds. All the sides will be playing five games each on Sunday.

It all gets under way at 10.30am. Spectators are very welcome to watch at Portishead Town FC, Bristol Road BS20 6QG. Please note anyone entering the 3G pitch area itself must be wearing moulded plastic studs.

Another great morning’s football yesterday in the first instalment of the Over 65’s tournament. Portishead and Cardiff both enjoyed very strong, unbeaten opening rounds, with Portishead leading the table on goal difference.

Clevedon & District, who included 65’s debutants Gary Pursey, Paul Stopard, Ali Smith in their squad, are handily placed in 3rd. Clevedon opened with a 0-0 draw with Cardiff before beating Keynsham 1-0, Gary Pursey scoring. Next a 0-2 loss to Portishead before a 2-0 win over Cwmbrân Celtic, goals by James Hobbs and Ali Smith.

Well done to the Clevedon squad, pictured below, for a solid start to the series. Thanks to all the teams taking part, the referees, all those involved in the organising both before and on the day, the spectators and to Portishead Town for the use of their excellent facilities. On to the round two next month with all to play for!
