CARDIFF CLINCH THE TITLE IN 65’s
It was a Cardiff City triumph in the Over 65’s Tournament as they completed Wednesday’s final round unbeaten overall. Three wins and a draw saw Cardiff finish six points clear.

A strong showing from Clevedon & District, also picking up 10 points, meant they edged the runners up spot on goal difference from Portishead. C&D began with a 2-0 win over Cwmbrân, a James Hobbs brace providing the goals in a dominant display. Next a 0-0 draw with Peasedown, C&D again on top. Two Mark Steadman goals were enough to beat Taunton 2-0. Finally another convincing win, 3-0 against Imperial with goals by Mark Steadman, James Hobbs and Jon Fry. Four clean sheets also tells its own story.

Very well played by the squad, pictured below, and all those who’ve turned out to C&D during the competition. Congratulations to Cardiff and well played to all the teams who took part. Thanks to the referees, everyone who came to watch, all those involved in organising the four tournaments and in particular to Pete Condon, the mastermind of the operation.

COMPETITIVE SHOWING BY CLEVEDON & DISTRICT 50’s IN THE NATIONAL FINALS
The 50’s gave a very good account of themselves in the WFA National Finals in Nottingham last Sunday, illustrating the excellent progress of the squad.

A very positive start with a 0-0 draw with Winstanley followed by a 1-0 win over Airbus, Andy Rankine scoring. There followed two narrow defeats 0-1 to Solihull and 1-2 against eventual champions Sleaford, Mike Pope on the scoresheet, ended hopes of going beyond the group stage.

Well done to the squad on the day, and all those players who played in previous rounds. Big shout out to the C&D Ultras - the Pope family, Mrs’s Pannett and Rankine, Pete Condon and Rich Orr - who gave the lads their enthusiastic support.

CLEVEDON & DISTRICT 70’s UNBEATEN IN NATIONAL FINALS
An excellent showing by our 70’s in last Saturday’s WFA National Finals in Nottingham. Unbeaten with three draws in the group games the lads could consider themselves unlucky not to reach the semi finals.

Opening up against Hartsill C&D produced a dominant display, taking the lead through Pete Condon’s goal. A late equaliser against the run of play meant the game finished 1-1. A tight 0-0 draw followed against Norwich, winners of their opening match. Final opponents Preston only needed a draw to progress to the semi finals and defended resolutely to keep C&D out.

A magnificent performance overall. Well done to the squad on the day and all those who contributed throughout the cup run, and in the training sessions to prepare for Nottingham. Also big thanks to Paul Rossiter who came to support the boys who will be looking to return next year.

We’re set up for a thrilling conclusion to the Over 65’s tournament this Wednesday 9th September. Going into this final round Cardiff City lead the way with Portishead just two points behind, both sides remaining unbeaten.

Meanwhile Clevedon & District, currently 3rd, will be looking to finish strongly. You can enjoy all action at Portishead Town FC, Bristol Road BS20 6QG, games start at 10.30am. Please note it’s a strict requirement that anyone entering the 3G pitch area itself must be wearing moulded plastic studs.

A very impressive showing by the Clevedon & District 70’s on Wednesday in Round 4 of the Hutton Moor Summer League. The team was unbeaten on the day, with 2 wins and a draw, and just 1 goal conceded. It leaves C&D just 4 points behind leaders Abbeymead with a game in hand. Jon Day took the managerial reins with support from Pete Lyne and Nigel McMain.

The first game saw C&D come from behind to beat Coasters 2-1, Dave Lindsay and Gary Hanley scoring. Completely dominant against Exeter 75s, C&D overcame their resistance with a Joe Herowych goal to secure a 1-0 win. Finally a hard fought 0-0 draw with Abbeymead concluded the day.

Well done to the whole squad, pictured below, for a tremendous effort all round.

CLEVEDON & DISTRICT OFF TO THE CUP FINALS!
Proud weekend coming up for Clevedon & District as for the first time we have two sides competing in the WFA National Finals. Both our Over 70’s and Over 50’s won through a number of rounds and their Regional Finals to earn their places at Nottingham.

The 70’s take the field on Saturday 5th and the 50’s on Sunday 6th. Both sides open with a series of group matches as they bid to qualify for the latter stages. Kickoff on both days is from 10am at the David Ross Sports Village, University of Nottingham, University Park, Nottingham, NG7 2RD.

Good luck to the Clevedon & District 70’s in action this Wednesday 2nd September in Round 4 of the Hutton Moor Summer League. Kickoff is at 12 midday and you can cheer the lads on at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, Hutton Moor Road, Weston Super Mare BS22 8LY.

How it all started!

Clevedon & District 65’s maintained their position of first in the table after Thursday’s 3rd Round of the Hutton Moor Summer League.

Mark Steadman’s well struck first half effort gave C&D the lead in the opening game against Western Rebels. The Rebels equalised after the break for a well contested 1-1 draw. Next , James Hobbs and Jon Fry supplied the goals in an excellent 2-0 win over Taunton. There were two more Mark Steadman strikes in a very competitive 2-2 draw with Abbeymead as C&D finished the day a point ahead at the top.

Well done to manager Angelo Micciche and his squad, below, who had to deal with the disruption of a couple of injuries during the afternoon. A great effort that keeps the lad in pole position.

Great news as the WFA and FA agree to unify walking football in England including a single set of rules.

The FA and WFA have announced a partnership to deliver a more consistent experience for participants at all levels.
