Last week I attended the Bystander webinar training run by Badminton England. It was a very informative and engaging session, talking about the science behind why bystanders act differently and how to respond in a situation by using the 5 D's:
Direct, Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay
There are other courses run for free for Badminton England members.

Our first month of summer training sessions has been a definite success - despite a mix up with the venue and a fire alarm issue!
James Elkin and Andrew have spent time teaching 14 of our club members a range of new skills and tactics!
There has been lots of positive feedback already and I'm sure the next 2 months of training will help us to see more massive improvements with everyone who attends.

It's a bank holiday weekend and half term week so we expect a few less faces tomorrow, but we will still be at Gordano for 9am! See you there.

Celebrating our award winners for the 25/26 season!
Team player - Grace, playing in 3 teams this season, rarely missing a game and playing matches on consecutive nights! Her team top must be the most washed!
Club player - Martin, a regular attendee who gives that little bit more, helping to tidy shuttles and always has great ideas to develop the club.
Most improved man - Alex, movement, range of shots and that extra bit of energy, even on a Sunday morning!
Most improved lady - Lizzie, she's become a big threat at the net and her strength in her shots is much improved.
Players player - Grace, who will admit she was most surprised to get this award!
Well done to all of you - and yes, you get to keep your trophy! 😃

Our tournament last Sunday was a great success! 30 players in total, with 2 round Robin leagues, a main draw and plate semi finals and finals. A lot of competitive badminton and a whole lot of fun, with competitors from 11 to 65 years of age!
The 4 teams of Eve and Simon, Rob and Guy, Harish and Slawek, Adam and Xiang made it to the main draw finals - victory for Harish and Slawek, with Rob and Guy finishing second.
The plate saw two of the youngsters taking part - Marcus and Joe, Arjun and Mahesh, Grace and Jo, Laura and David.
With a final push - Marcus and Joe took top spot, with Grace and Jo finishing second.
Congratulations to all our winners!

Tomorrow is the day of our long awaited tournament and end of season awards.
We're expecting to see plenty of good competitive games during the morning.

On Saturday, the Badminton World Federation membership voted to approve the adoption of a 3×15 scoring system at the BWF Annual General Meeting.

At Badminton England, we take pride in listening to our community. Your feedback was taken into consideration and rightly represented in how we approached this vote last weekend.

The new system will come into effect on Monday 4th January 2027 and Badminton England will now take some time to reflect on the details of this decision before working closely with all key stakeholders to consider the application of the scoring system in England.

This matter will form a focal point for our discussion at the next Board meeting in May – when the thoughts and opinions of our members will assuredly be at the forefront of our conversations.
