It was another busy and successful weekend for Ballygalget AC, with club members representing the club across a range of events both at home and further afield.
On Friday evening, a strong Ballygalget contingent travelled to Downpatrick for the Co Down 5K Race. Representing the club were David Conlon, Gary Addis, Ryan Kelly, Ann-Marie Smyth, and Jay Fitzsimmons, all of whom delivered impressive performances on what is always a competitive and well-supported event.
There were notable personal bests for three of the group, with:
David Conlon finishing in an impressive 17:08 PB
Jay Fitzsimmons clocking 17:54 PB
Gary Addis continuing his strong form with an 18:09 PB
These results highlight the continued progress within the club and the benefits of consistent training.
Saturday brought another busy morning, with Ann and Kieran Taggart taking on the popular Old Carrick Mill 5K Gin Run. This race, known for its challenging and hilly route, attracted over 1,000 entrants, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Kieran produced an outstanding run, finishing 16th overall, a superb achievement given the depth of the field. Ann also tackled the demanding course with determination, adding another strong performance to the weekendโs tally.
Further afield, Julie Allen was in action at Jezioro Gรณrne Parkrun, continuing the clubโs international presence. Parkruns are always a great way to keep consistency in training while enjoying the wider running community, and Julie represented the club admirably.
Meanwhile, endurance specialist Gemma Roddy added yet another incredible accomplishment to her running career, completing her 186th marathon at the Glenmore Challenge in County Louth. Gemmaโs dedication and resilience continue to inspire those within the club and beyond, as she consistently takes on some of the toughest long-distance challenges.
Looking ahead to the week, club members are reminded that the social run will take place on Monday 22nd June, leaving from Portaferry Chapel Car Park at 6:45pm. This is a great opportunity for runners of all abilities to get involved in a relaxed and supportive environment.
The club extends a warm invitation to all adults aged 18+ who would like to get active, meet new people, and enjoy the benefits of running in a friendly, supportive environment.
