It was another busy and successful weekend for Ballygalget AC, with club members representing the club across a range of events both at home and further afield.

On Friday evening, a strong Ballygalget contingent travelled to Downpatrick for the Co Down 5K Race. Representing the club were David Conlon, Gary Addis, Ryan Kelly, Ann-Marie Smyth, and Jay Fitzsimmons, all of whom delivered impressive performances on what is always a competitive and well-supported event.

There were notable personal bests for three of the group, with:

David Conlon finishing in an impressive 17:08 PB
Jay Fitzsimmons clocking 17:54 PB
Gary Addis continuing his strong form with an 18:09 PB

These results highlight the continued progress within the club and the benefits of consistent training.

Saturday brought another busy morning, with Ann and Kieran Taggart taking on the popular Old Carrick Mill 5K Gin Run. This race, known for its challenging and hilly route, attracted over 1,000 entrants, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Kieran produced an outstanding run, finishing 16th overall, a superb achievement given the depth of the field. Ann also tackled the demanding course with determination, adding another strong performance to the weekendโ€™s tally.

Further afield, Julie Allen was in action at Jezioro Gรณrne Parkrun, continuing the clubโ€™s international presence. Parkruns are always a great way to keep consistency in training while enjoying the wider running community, and Julie represented the club admirably.

Meanwhile, endurance specialist Gemma Roddy added yet another incredible accomplishment to her running career, completing her 186th marathon at the Glenmore Challenge in County Louth. Gemmaโ€™s dedication and resilience continue to inspire those within the club and beyond, as she consistently takes on some of the toughest long-distance challenges.

Looking ahead to the week, club members are reminded that the social run will take place on Monday 22nd June, leaving from Portaferry Chapel Car Park at 6:45pm. This is a great opportunity for runners of all abilities to get involved in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The club extends a warm invitation to all adults aged 18+ who would like to get active, meet new people, and enjoy the benefits of running in a friendly, supportive environment.

Ballygalget Athletics Club enjoyed another memorable weekend of running, with members taking part in events both near and far โ€” delivering strong performances, personal milestones and successes.

A highlight of the weekend was the participation of Donna, Gemma and Paula Roddy in the scenic Portumna Forest Marathon event in County Galway. The occasion held special significance for Donna and Gemma, who completed the full marathon distance to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their very first marathon โ€” a remarkable milestone that reflects their commitment, consistency, and passion for running over the past decade.

Taking on the challenging forest course, both runners demonstrated resilience and determination, marking the anniversary in fitting style by once again conquering the 26.2-mile distance. Sharing the day with them was Paula Roddy, who completed the half marathon, putting in an excellent performance and adding to a proud family representation for Ballygalget AC at the event.

Closer to home, club members were also in action at the CS Lewis 5 Mile Run, held on Friday 5th, where a strong turnout of eight Ballygalget AC runners took to the paths, pavements and tracks being spurred on by the many motivational signs on the route. The event once again proved popular and competitive, showcasing the clubโ€™s depth and enthusiasm across all levels. All runners rewarded with refreshments and a Lion Bar tying in with the theme of the evening.

The standout performance of the evening came from Letitia, who delivered an exceptional run to secure 2nd place female in her age category โ€” a fantastic achievement and a testament to her hard work and training.

Overall, it was a weekend to remember for Ballygalget AC, combining celebration, achievement, and community spirit. With milestones marked the club continues to go from strength to strength as the summer racing season unfolds. Well done to all involved!

The club extends a warm invitation to all adults aged 18+ who would like to get active, meet new people, and enjoy the benefits of running in a friendly, supportive environment.

It was another steady and encouraging week for Ballygalget AC, with members continuing to put in the miles and support one another despite a quieter racing calendar.

There were no competitive events on the schedule for members this week, but that has not slowed down the clubโ€™s momentum. Training remains strong across the board, with runners of all levels staying focused as they prepare for upcoming races later in the season. From steady midweek mileage to longer endurance efforts, members are showing great commitment and consistency.

Our popular social runs continue to be a highlight of the week. These relaxed, friendly sessions take place every Monday at 6.45pmoffering an excellent opportunity for runners to come together, enjoy some miles, and have a chat along the way. Venues for each run are posted in advance on the clubโ€™s open page, so keep an eye out for the latest details.

Monday 8th June sees the club team up with runners from all across the Peninsula in the monthly Peninsula Run which takes place in Greyabbey this month. There will be the opportunity at this months gathering to make a donation to The Air Ambulance. Refreshments provided for after run.

As always, our social runs are open to anyone aged 18 and over, whether you are already running regularly or thinking about getting started. New faces are always welcome, and the supportive atmosphere makes Ballygalget AC a great place to build confidence and fitness.

Away from the organised sessions, it is fantastic to see members meeting up informally throughout the week to tackle longer runs together. These meet-ups highlight the strong sense of community within the club, with runners supporting each other through the milesโ€”whether thatโ€™s sharing pace duties, offering encouragement, or simply providing company on the road.

With several races on the horizon, the focus now remains on preparation, consistency, and staying injury-free. The dedication shown by members week in, week out continues to reflect the positive spirit at the heart of Ballygalget AC.

The club extends a warm invitation to all adults aged 18+ who would like to get active, meet new people, and enjoy the benefits of running in a friendly, supportive environment.

There was huge excitement on Sunday 26 April as David Conlon took on the 2026 London Marathon, delivering a phenomenal performance on one of the worldโ€™s biggest running stages. David crossed the line in an outstanding 3:01:04, securing a personal best, with a strong pace of 4:18/km and an impressive overall placing among thousands of runners.

His postโ€‘race reflections captured the moment perfectly: great weather, an electric atmosphere and a day heโ€™ll never forget. A brilliant achievement and a proud moment for David and the club.

Back home, club members gathered in Ballyhalbert on Sunday morning for a community social run, setting off early so they could return in time to track Davidโ€™s marathon progress live. It was a lovely show of support and a reminder of the camaraderie that defines Ballygalget AC.

The club also marked a meaningful milestone this week, confirming that ยฃ500 has been donated to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust (KBRT). The funds were raised through the clubโ€™s coffee morning and annual race, reflecting the generosity and community focus that Ballygalget AC is known for.

Attention now turns to the upcoming Belfast Marathon this Sunday, where several Ballygalget AC members will be taking part in both the full marathon and the relay event. The club extends its warmest good wishes to everyone competingโ€”whether chasing a time or simply embracing the challenge.

Mondays social (6.45pm) and Wednesday Training (7pm) continues - see Facebook for location updates. All runners aged 18+ very welcome to join.

The club extends a warm invitation to all adults aged 18+ who would like to get active, meet new people, and enjoy the benefits of running in a friendly, supportive environment.

One of our club members lost a backpack at the C relay change over at Belfast Marathon yesterday. It may have been lifted by someone in error. It contained a club half zip along with car keys and trainers so if you hear of anyone finding it please give us a shout. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
