🏆 Nominee for Volunteer of the Month August 2026 – Gillian McQuaid
Our next nominee for August Volunteer of the Month is our Club Treasurer, Gillian McQuaid.
Gillian carries out one of the most important roles within a club of our size, working quietly and professionally to oversee our financial governance and ensure that the club’s finances are managed responsibly and transparently.
She brings a professional and measured approach to the role, holding firmly to a clear set of values while, at the same time, always trying to support our volunteers and the many different areas of the club.
Gillian has been instrumental in introducing more efficient electronic payment systems across our activities. These have become an important part of how the club operates and have allowed her to provide invaluable support to our football hubs, blitzes, social functions, fundraising activities and many other club events.
She is also very much a hands-on volunteer. Gillian can regularly be found manning the gate at our Senior football games, taking responsibility for the match-day income and making sure everything is properly recorded.
That attention to detail continues throughout the year. Gillian ensures that the club’s financial records are accurate and kept up to date, with all the necessary information properly documented and ready for the preparation of our annual accounts.
There is a huge amount of responsibility attached to being Club Treasurer and much of the work involved happens away from public view. Gillian gives countless hours to the role, quietly ensuring that the financial side of the club continues to operate smoothly and professionally. Gillian is also a key member of our fundraising working group and our finance working group.
👏 Thank you Gillian for everything you do for Tír na nÓg and congratulations on your nomination for August Volunteer of the Month!

Final call for Senior ladies as the Seo must go on

Tír na nÓg senior ladies advanced to the final of the junior championship today with an emphatic victory over Eire Og. After a Rocky start, the girls dominated the remainder of the game and all eyes will now be focused on the final and the huge challenge they face against Middletown.

The contribution of the defence has to be mentioned. Seonna Cushley was superb in nets. After a start that was not cushy, Cushley responded brilliantly with her handling and exceptional kick outs. Captain Meabh kept the Eire Og attack under Loughan key throughout. Eimear O Connor had a great game in the full back line. Eimear was able to scheme 'er way out of several difficult situations. Kasey Carvill was tigerish and tenacious in the tackle, securing several eye catching turnovers. Caitlin Smith was a rock in the defence, determined and resilient from start to finish. Her majestic, mighty point at the end raised a huge cheer from the crowd, including a roar of "Well done our kid!" from a proud parent. When danger threatened, Cara Shortt was always there to put out the fire. The youthful Aimee as always able to Reid the game well with some rampaging runs up the field. Melah Hawes played a crucial role in linking the play from defence to attack.

After a difficult opening, Eire Og were soon suffering from Weir fear as Tír na nÓg burst into life. Aine McDonald, outstanding today, started a dazzling move involving Annie O Hanlon before Sophie Weir blasted to the net. From the kick out, Sophie turned provider as the excellent Eva Lambe added another goal. This mesmerising part of the game saw another goal for Sophie Weir. A quick thinking tap and go from the lively Eira Awada freed up Eva Lambe and Clia Creaney finished the move with a nice point.

One of the highlights of the second half was the return from injury of Maebh Quinn. Within seconds, the mighty Quinn secured a super possession which led to a free. Up stepped Clia Creaney and for the second time in 2 minutes, her precisely placed kick flew over the defence and into the net. The final goal was a perfect example of the brilliant team work on display today. Clia Creaney did well to secure the ball in the middle. Aine McDonald then passed to Caoimhe OConnor who had a truly outstanding game today. Caoimhe spotted Annie O Hanlon who was bursting through on the right hand side. Annie's finish was exceptional as she rifled the ball into the net. The substitutions made showed the strength in depth of this squad. The evergreen Brid Hamill brilliantly flicked the ball on for Eira Awada to send over a neat point.

Well done players and coaches on a superb win. Asked about the performance of powerhouse midfielder Aine Mc Donald and her efforts to Police the middle sector, mum Maeve commented afterwards:
