Women’s Euro 2025

FINAL

📢📢We have a winner!

England battled their way to a second successive Euros crown, defeating Spain on penalties after a cagey one-all draw in Basel. Despite all the drama and biting of nails, that meant a mere four points for each. Spain finished our competition with 89 across their 6 matches, which isn't really a surprise. England, however, were only the fifth highest scoring nation, ending with 58 points. Norway (thanks to their Wildcard bonus for getting through the groups), France and Sweden all scored over 60 points and more than the Lionesses. Do they care? No.

🏆🏆We already knew our winner, but here’s the confirmation. Jackie Archer wins with 2026 points, 37 points ahead of second placed Abigail Campbell and a hundred points better than third placed Shane Toner. Well done to the three prize winners! 🏆🏆

⚽⚽The two goals in Sunday’s final took our final goals total to 106, with a goals per game average of 3.4. Nobody predicted that total, unfortunately, but we can’t let an entire Super6 competition end without giving back a single entry fee! So, closest to the mark was James Lemon who predicted 108 goals - we’ll make contact with James in this next few days!🏆🏆

Thanks again to Portadown FC Ladies and all of you who supported your club. Hopefully the funds raised will help the club continue to build towards further success!

Semi Final Update!

Only one match to go, and the race for the top prize is hotting up. For England or Spain, that is. Because the Portadown FC Ladies Super6 is already in the bag for Jackie Archer.

Jackie's score of 1954 points can't be topped because the current top two have the same configuration of teams in their first two ranking positions. David Smith, in third, has England ranked in top spot but because Jackie and Abigail Campbell have both the finalists remaining, he can't climb to the summit.

There have now been 104 goals across the 30 matches, a rate of 3.4 per game. That means we would end up 107 goals if we get another 3 in Sunday's final. Nobody has predicted that final goal total, but James Lemon is currently closest, with 108.

I still haven't been able to give away that entry fee...

Women’s Euro 2025

Group Stage - Round 3

📢📢The groups ends with plenty of drama and even more goals! The 39 goals across the final eight matches was an average of five goals a game! More on that later.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 put their 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Welsh🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 neighbours to the sword and very briefly looked like they would win the group, and be rewarded with a rocky road to the final through 🇩🇪Germany🇩🇪 and 🇪🇸Spain🇪🇸. The 🇫🇷French🇫🇷 comeback against the 🇳🇱Netherlands🇳🇱 means that the Lionesses now appear to have two much more winnable fixtures, at least on paper. Germany suffered a shock defeat, and that red card cost many of you a further deduction, while 🇸🇪Sweden🇸🇪 ended up topping the group and securing the maximum points bonus. In case anyone was worried, the bonuses for qualifying and maximum points aren’t added on until the group stage ends - which is now. With half our field now eliminated, it is possible to see who is in the running for the prizes. It also, however, becomes very difficult for entrants to avoid seeing their picks come face to face in the knockout rounds.

⚽⚽As I mentioned at the start, the goals have been flying in as the tournament progresses. WIll that continue in the knockout rounds or will matches become tense and tight? We’ve now 89 goals across 24 matches, which is an average of 3.71 goals per game. Across the rest of the competition, this would give us a final total of 115 goals, which would be 20 more than in the last Euros. No one correctly predicted this total - so our money back reward hasn’t been claimed…yet - but Peter Donaldson was the closest with 119. We will roll the prize over the to end of the Quarter Finals and hopefully someone will get their entry fee back!⚽⚽

📢A reminder of the bonus points, all multiplied by your ranking coefficient. Winning the group gains 10 points, runner-up gains 5 points and maximum points means a further 10 points.Unfortunately, finishing bottom of the group means a 5 point deduction and if, like Iceland, Denmark and Wales, a team finishes with zero point…then they are hit with a further 10 points penalty! The real shock comes when WIldcard teams (like Norway) have their bonus points doubled!

🏆🏆Plenty of change at the top, thanks mainly to the French comeback, Sweden and Norway topping their groups with maximum points, and all those bonus points. Jackie Archer sits on top now with an impressive 1590 points, Abigail Campbell is second on 1553 and Raymond Campbell is still in the mix in third with 1551. 🏆🏆

Women’s Euro 2025

Group Stage - Round 2

📢📢With the second round of group fixtures completed, we already have some teams through to the knockout stages. Two wins from two for Norway, Germany, France, Sweden and the magnificent Spain mean that they all have the luxury of a final group match without pressure. However, in the world of Super6, this can mean bad news as squad rotation comes into play. Remember, there’s a fairly hefty bonus available for teams that qualify with maximum points, and the difference between first and second is 5 points (multiplied by the ranking coefficient).

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 played more like, well, England, to set up an interesting final match against their 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Welsh🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 neighbours while there’s a winner-takes-all tomorrow between the 🇨🇭hosts🇨🇭 and 🇫🇮Finland🇫🇮. Remember the final matches for each group are played at the same time, kicking off at 8pm.

⚽⚽The second round of fixtures provided 30 goals across the eight games, a significant increase from the first eight. We have now had 49 goals in the first 16 matches, an average of 3.06 goals per game, and an overall goal prediction of 95 goals. Six of you predicted that total - very impressive - so here’s your fifteen minutes of fame! Emily Walker, Norman Allen, Neil Martin, Jordan Wilson, Amber Lucas and Sarah Ashe. At the end of the final matches of the group stage, we will give back the entry fee to one entrant, if they have correctly guessed the goal prediction. If that had been tonight, Norman would have won the prize as he currently has the highest total out of the six. ⚽⚽

🏆🏆It’s the same top three, with Jacqueline Lucas still in front and with a slightly larger lead. Her total of 734 points would suggest she will make it to four figures by the end of the group stage, and before entrants start to lose some of their picks. Raymond Gilmore is second with 721 and Norman Allen is third with 707.🏆🏆

Women’s Euro 2025

🗓️Group Stage - Round 1🗓️

⚽⚽The first round of fixtures are now complete, with 19 goals across the eight games. This gives an average of 2.4 goals per game which would equate to 74 for the tournament if that average continued until the end of the final on Sunday 27th July. For those of you who haven't played Super6 before, that guess you fired in just before entering will become important if two or more entries can’t be separated at the end. Nobody predicted 74, however Alison Lappin is closest with 73. Not a bad sho so far! Sometimes, if we’re in a good mood, we give out spot prizes at the end of each stage, so keep following the updates.⚽⚽

🇪🇸Spain🇪🇸, as expected, have started the strongest and gained 17 points. Those of you who ranked them in first position have, therefore, gained 170 points from that pick alone. The ranking part of this game is so important - ranking Spain in second spot, rather than first, cost you 34 points. Those of you with 🇫🇷France🇫🇷 now also realise the value of a clean sheet - it’s worth the same as a goal - meaning that late 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 goal may have cost you as much as
20 points. On the other hand, that consolation goal gained those of you with England ranked first, a very late 20 points. It was nearly more than that.

🏆Jacqueline Lucas leads the way so far with an impressive 352 points. Only Belgium failed to add anything to her total, ensuring she has a six point lead over Raymond Gilmore. No one needs to panic just yet, though, as things can change very quickly in Super6, especially when we get through to the knockout stages.🏆

Women’s Euro 2025

We are back!

Our first competition for women’s football begins today with two Group A kicking us off.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 1

Group A promises to be a close affair, with four evenly ranked WIldcards fighting for the two qualification spots. The fact all four teams are Wildcards no doubt accounts for their popularity among the Portadown Ladies entries - Norway were selected almost as many times as highly-fancied Germany.

The first match of the tournament sees Iceland and Finland face off, before Switzerland and Norway do battle in the evening.

📅Day Twenty-Two Sunday 14th July📅

That's it! The final of Euro 2024 and the culmination of all our hard work, stress and worry.

🇪🇸 2 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 1

Football still stubbornly refuses to find its way home, as a plucky England performance is thwarted in the closing stages. Spain, undoubtedly, were the best team in Euro 2024 but were made to work hard for the seventh straight victory of the competition. Two goals and win gain them 9 more points, meaning a final total of 78 for the competition. England get 2 more points for their goal, and end with 51 points. That's the third highest of the competition, after Spain and Germany.

The overviews below may look odd as I focus on who wins the prizes on offer in each Super6 competition.

🏆Augher Stars Youth FC🏆

Stephen Phair is the winner with 1691 points and Eamon Tierney bags the second prize with 1672.

🏆Banbridge Town FC🏆

Thomas Henning takes the first prize with 1679 points thanks to the Spanish victory, Morris Martin having to make do with second place. An England victory would have made an impact in this one.

🏆Bourneview Mill FC🏆

Ian Megaw wins with our highest total across all the competitions. His 1721 leaves him 28 points clear of Phillip Carville in second and Pauline McCusker in third.

🏆Drumaness Mills FC🏆

Vera O’Reilly is indeed the winner! Her magnificent total of 1703 points left her over a hundred clear of second-placed Nuala Arbuckle. Gary Murdock hangs on to third place.

🏆Fivemiletown Utd FC🏆

Cheryl Long secures her inevitable victory with 1690 points, almost 150 points ahead of Michael Broadrick in second.

🏆Portadown FC Ladies🏆

Dave Wiggins bags the win in this one with 1652 points, two clear of David Reilly in second and Mark Beattie in third.

⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

What about the Goals Estimate, I hear you say? Well, three goals in the final means we finish with 117 after all 51 matches have been played. That, by the way, is a final ratio of 2.29 goals per game. Just 5 of you predicted that at the start: Rhys McQuigg & Lloyd Loane [Fivemiletown Utd], Mollie Jennett [Portadown FC Ladies], Thomas McKeever [Augher Stars Youth FC], and Stephen Grant [Bourneview Mill FC]. Well done to all five but, using our usual advanced criteria, the winner is Molly Jennett due to her superior Super6 total. Well done Mollie! We will be in touch shortly to refund your entry fee.

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks to all of you for taking part - it’s been an absolute pleasure again. Thank you for helping out each of the clubs who now have a bit of extra cash to spend and, finally, thank you to the clubs for letting us run our Super6 competitions. We are still a small, local business and appreciate your help as we grow. Hopefully our paths will cross again in the near future.

📅📅Wee Funds runs Super6 competitions for all the major football competitions and we will be back in September with the Champions League Group Stages - it’s always a popular one. But we can also adapt our format for any sport so spread the word far and wide.

Thanks again!

Day Twenty-One - Wednesday 10th July

🌞🌞Apologies for the delay🌞🌞

The penultimate competition roundup and our second semi-final.

🇳🇱 1 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 2

England are through to back-to-back European Championship Finals thanks to a late, late goal from Ollie Watkins. The Dutch will complain about that penalty for many a year but tonight’s result rubber stamps a number of our competitions.

🏆Augher Stars Youth FC🏆

Stephen Phair looks untouchable now with both finalists in his selection. Dara Tierney does have them ranked differently but is too far away to have a chance.

🏆Banbridge Town FC🏆

This one could still be interesting as Thomas Hennings has the lead, and Spain ranked first. Chris Jess is second but with England ranked first. They both have the other finalist ranked third just to make it interesting.

🏆Bourneview Mill FC🏆

Ian Megaw takes the lead with one match to go - great timing! And, with Spain and England as his top two picks, he’s surely safe.

🏆Drumaness Mills FC🏆

Vera O’Reilly lead is exactly 100 points, and she has both the finalists. Gavin Mooney does have England ranked first, while Vera has them fourth but the lead is surely too big even if England have a dream night.

🏆Fivemiletown Utd FC🏆

Cheryl Long won this back when England were rubbish and Southgate was the new Sam Allardyce. She’s still over a hundred points clear and has both the finalists.

🏆Portadown FC Ladies🏆

The Dutch are gone and Mark Beattie has been vanquished! Dave Wiggins is surely safe with both the finalists in his selections.

⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Six goals in the semis, 114 overall so far which is an average of 2.3. The supercomputer is saying we would have 116 at the end which would mean Martin Brannigan would be our winner on Sunday night!

See you for the final on Sunday!

📅Day Twenty - Tuesday 9th July📅

🇪🇸 2 🇫🇷 1

The French, selected 733 times, are gone. They actually played well tonight, certainly their best performance of the competition, but still not enough to stop the Spanish progressing to their first final in over a decade. Remember back then, when we wondered if there’d ever be another final without Spain? Mbappe, minus the mask, was upstaged by Lamine Yamal who will turn 17 the day before Sunday’s final.

Spain bag 9 more points tonight for the win and two goals. France finish up with 2 final points for their goal. Just to emphasise the difference between these two sides over the entire tournament, that means a final total of 37 points for France, and 69 points so far for Spain.

🏆Augher Stars Youth FC🏆

Stephen Phair leads by 10 points over Ruairi Maguire, but Ruairi can no longer pass him. By my reckoning, you have to go down to Dean Galloway, in 7th, and Dara Tierney, in 10th, to find anyone with half a chance of victory. They have England ranked higher and will hope for two massive English victories in the days ahead.

🏆Banbridge Town FC🏆

Nathan Andrews lead is cut again, with just two points now separating him from Thomas Henning. Both Thomas and Morris Martin, in 3rd, have England so a Netherlands victory tomorrow probably seals the deal for Nathan.

🏆Bourneview Mill FC🏆

This one is similar to Augher Stars Youth in that Pauline McCusker in 2nd place can no longer win. Ian Megaw is still the biggest threat to leader Phillip Carville but all his hopes rest with England. He's also 60 points behind so penalty shootouts probably won’t be enough.

🏆Drumaness Mills FC🏆

Vera O’Reilly’s lead is now 119 points! Gavin Mooney has dropped to 8th place but is probably still the most likely of unlikely challengers. Again, at the risk of repeating myself, it needs England to play in a way more akin to a team managed by Ossie Ardiles, than Gareth Southgate.

🏆Fivemiletown Utd FC🏆

Cheryl Long’s lead is the largest of any of our competitions, although her score is slightly lower than Vera O’Reilly’s of Drumaness Mills. Cadden Noble is the highest competitor (15th) to have England ranked first, but is over 200 points behind. A few of you have England ranked second but Cheryl was clever enough to stick them in 4th just to pick up enough points to keep you all out of reach.

🏆Portadown FC Ladies🏆

Dave Wiggins moves into first with a swagger. Neither Paulo Tavares nor Lyn Hoey can beat him now, and we've known for a while that David Reilly was out of the race. It’s still Mark Beattie who represents his biggest threat but an England victory of any sort tomorrow will knock him out too. Andrew, down in 9th, has England ranked first but trails by over 100 points - he needs those two massive England wins I keep mentioning, but it's worth noting that Dave has the Three Lions ranked fourth just for good measure.

⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Once again, I’ll not do the Goals Estimate until the end of the round - meaning tomorrow. It will be a late one tomorrow night as I will be landing on foreign shores about 30 minutes into the second semi-final!🛩

At the very least, I will update the League Tables and follow up with an overview the next day. Here's hoping the WiFi is good! 😳

📅Day Nineteen - Saturday 6th July📅

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 1 🇨🇭 1

I’m not 100% sure how, but England are in the semis. That’s great news, if you picked them. However, there are 661 others who also picked them so it really comes down to where you ranked them. Another penalty shoot out tonight, meaning both England and the mighty Swiss (how many times did the commentators try to convince us how good a team they were?) get two points for a goal and 2 points for a draw.

🇳🇱 2 🇹🇷 1

And they face the Netherlands in the final four, who came back from a goal down to defeat the brave Turks. A surprisingly high 233 of you fancied the Turks - the Dutch have only been selected 111 times - and you were nearly proven right. What a header, and what a cross for the winner. A win and two goals gives the Dutch another 9 points and a place in the semi-finals. The Turks, our final Wildcard, exit with a 2 additional points, meaning they currently have more points than the Netherlands (41 to 39).

🏆Augher Stars Youth FC🏆

This one is still up for grabs! Stephen Phair still leads by 14 points and he has three teams remaining. An England v Spain final would give him the prize, but Ruairi Maguire has the French ranked one position higher so if Les Bleus lift the trophy without the need of penalties, then the title could be his. Interestingly, fourth-placed Gareth Erskine has the French in second spot but has 27 points to make up. Maybe?

🏆Banbridge Town FC🏆

Nathan Andrews lead is down to just 6 points, with Thomas Hennings gaining ground thanks to England and Turkey. The same two teams helped third placed Chris Jess even more, however, as he moves within 19 points of the title. With England ranked first, the money could be his if football really did come home.

🏆Bourneview Mill FC🏆

Only England can stop Phillip Carville from walking off with the prize money! Pauline McCusker’s chances probably disappeared with Turkey (unless France get a huge negative score in either the semi-final or final), so Ian Megaw become Phillip’s main threat. He’s still over 50 points back but has the English ranked second, so every point would be multiplied by 8. It’s possible…
🏆Drumaness Mills FC🏆

Vera O’Reilly is almost there. She’s obviously miles ahead and with Spain, France and England still in the mix. Gavin Mooney, in third place, and exactly 100 points behind, will be hoping Southgate releases the handbrake and England rattle off two high scoring victories to lift the trophy. For example, two consecutive 13 point hauls would mean 260 points for Gavin. That would, however, require England to beat the Dutch and either Spain or France by a 3-0 scoreline. Chances?

🏆Fivemiletown Utd FC🏆

This one has been over for a long, long time. It doesn’t take Carol Vorderman to see that there’s no way any of Cheryl Long’s chasers can catch her. You'd have to go down as far as 21st place to find anyone with the Netherlands so maybe a couple of 15-0 results in the next two rounds could make things interesting. England defend with 10 behind the ball so it’s unlikely they’d ship that many.

🏆Portadown FC Ladies🏆

Paulo Tavares still leads but he’s just lost his Wildcard, and possibly his chance of victory. Dave Wiggins may be three points adrift but his higher ranking of both Spain and France, and the backup of England, would suggest he is the hot favourite. Lyn Hoey is right there too, but with similar teams to Dave and ranked lower. Only large negative scores can help Lyn at this point. I hate to say it, but his biggest threat is probably Mark Beattie and the Netherlands. If they defeat England (before penalties) and win the Final, then it could be enough to close that gap.

⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Eight goals across four quarter-final ties, takes us up to 108 goals. We’ve only three matches left! If the current goal rate continued then our final total would be 115. We’ve had this one before - eight of you predicted it but Jamie Wright of Bourneview Mill wins the plaudits tonight with the highest Super6 total in that select group.

📅📅Day Eighteen - Friday 5th July📅📅

I wonder how many of you celebrated before realising the red card cost you some points!

🇪🇸 2 🇩🇪 1

The hosts have been eliminated after 120 minutes of fantastic drama and 535 of you have lost a biggie. However, we really can’t ignore Carvajal’s red, which is worth -5, before applying your ranking coefficient. If you have the Spanish ranked first, for example, then his rugby tackle cost you 50 points.

Spain got a win and two goals, but then the pesky red card. That means they get 4 points. Germany exit the competition with a final 2 points for their goal.

🇵🇹 🇫🇷

Just when we thought the Germans had missed some chances, Portugal and France arrived on the scene. Some of the misses here defied belief. Why Ronaldo didn't cry again is a mystery. A goalless ninety minutes, followed by a goalless thirty minutes brought us to another penalty shootout. France go through. That means Portugal and France get a draw and a clean sheet, so 4 points each. The difference, of course, is that France have the chance to earn more points in the semi-finals while Portugal go home.

**Two years ago, club feedback was unanimous is wanting a match decided on penalties to declared as a draw. I'm not totally convinced, but that's how it's running this time around.

🏆Augher Stars Youth FC🏆

Ruari Maguire moves ahead of Stephen Phair, but the lead is less than 10 points. Eamon Tierney and Gareth Erskine are still just about within touching distance.

🏆Banbridge Town FC🏆

Nathan Andrews has a 32 point lead over Thomas Henning, with Morris Martin a further ten adrift. Chris McDowell is also close but has lost his top team.

🏆Bourneview Mill FC🏆

Phillip Carville is one point from 1500 but still has Pauline McCusker breathing down his neck. It's surely a two-horse race here with Ian Megaw 80 points from top, but he does does have England...

🏆Drumaness Mills FC🏆

Same Top 3, same order, still Vera O’Reilly miles ahead.

🏆Fivemiletown Utd FC🏆

Cheryl Long is more than a mile ahead here, witj Angie Long just about holding off Kris Barkey for second place.

🏆Portadown FC Ladies🏆

Paolo Tavares is top, one point ahead of Lyn Hoey. Dave Wiggins is fifteen points from the leader in third. All three had Spain so lost points because of that late red card.

⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️
