After a long 20 month wait, the sun well and truly shined yesterday when Talbot Reds returned to the hallowed turf of the Welfare Field, Cwmafan RFC and welcomed Cardiff University Women's Rugby Team! ππ
Cardiff made a strong start to the game, capitalising on some early chances and taking the lead. The Reds gradually grew into the game and crossed the whitewash a few times. We learnt some tough lessons along the way but importantly, gave everything we had and never took a backwards step. It wasn't enough in the end to rival Cardiff but what a fantastic opportunity it was for our girls to dive straight back into competitive rugby with such a physical game, especially for our many new girls who've recently joined the team! There's plenty to work on moving forward so watch this space! πͺ
A big congratulations to Cardiff on the win, it was wholeheartedly deserved and you were fantastic competition. We look forward to playing you again very soon! Congratulations also to our players, coaches, try scorers, the new girls who made their first appearance, and a special mention for Chloe Jones who scored a cracker on debut!! π
A big thank you to all those who came out to support the Reds, especially Port Talbot Panthers who stayed to cheer the girls on after their own game against Cardiff Lions and Mandy Boulton for taking some brilliant action shots! It was a fantastic crowd and it was great to see the community being able to come together and watch local rugby again. It was also great to share a few well-earned pints with you after the match - hydration is key after all, especially in the sunshine! π
Anyone looking to return to rugby, try a new sport, improve fitness or meet a great group of girls - give us a message! Regardless of ability or experience, there's a place for everyone at Talbot Reds! π΄β«οΈπ
