Today was The Peter Williams Memorial Match at The Dock. It is 2 years since Peter passed away, but is still missed by everyone. Peter was a great man, both a great angler and great person, and had an infectious personality, and all anglers would have been thinking of fun times spent in his company today. Anglers travelled from as far as Bristol for today's match, a true testament to the high regard he was held in.
The match was excellently organised and run by Steve O'Mara today, and the prize giving was held in Blanco's after the match. Peter's daughter Zara was present, along with his grandchildren for the presentation of the annually contested shield, held in his memory, and we were very grateful for their attendance.
Although a very poignant day, a match still had to be contested, and unfortunately it fished even harder than usual, with several blanks including 4 anglers in a row without a bite between them. I bet Peter was looking down having one of his wry chuckles.
Winner of a very low weight, yet close match was the Cardiff Superstar Richie Candy. Richie caught all his fish on the feeder today for a change, which included 2 skimmers, a nice perch and some small roach, despite losing several fish to pike, including a 1lb+ perch. Richie weighed 4lb 13oz from peg 18.
Second was Matthew (Wiggy). Fishing from peg 16, Wiggy caught a nice 1lb+ perch, and added to some small roach, weighed 4lb 8oz. All his fish were caught on the feeder.
