I can’t believe it’s a year ago since my celebration event and how serendipitous it is that this years theme is Give to Gain.

This morning I’ve been reflecting on how blessed I am to be surrounded by so many who have given so generously not only to me but to all they come into contact with - their kindness, compassion, support, knowledge, fearlessness and passion is incredible - I’m struggling to describe it without it sounding like a crass word salad - they are just ace!

When you are in business you need to be surrounded by those who have a generous mindset, that aren’t just in it for themselves or seek to criticise or pull you down - but those who lift you, see the diamond in you when you can’t, help you find your path and support you when you get lost and champion you at every step - and as I write this I’m just feeling so full that there are so many wonderful friends and colleagues who do just that for me and for so many others.

So a massive thank you to all the amazing women (and men) who have loved and supported me and who give so generously to all of those they come into contact with - you are amazing and know the world is a much better place with you in it.

Happy International Women’s Day

Ps I know there is debate around IWD but that’s a whole different post I wanted this one to be celebratory and one of thanks 🙏

This weekend I switched off completely and I didn’t work! It’s been a super busy time recently delivering two major projects and I’ve had to work most weekends but this weekend I didn’t and it was bliss.

But I’m really firm with myself even when I do work at weekends - when I stop work I stop thinking about it. As the laptop lid shuts so does the window in my brain 🥰

It never used to be like that. I used to think I had to think about things - maybe to show I cared, or that it was important, or if didn’t something bad would happen or I’d forget something.

But it was exhausting. I never got a break, I didn’t rest or recharge, I felt stressed and overwhelmed. I was rarely present let alone be able to think about other things.

This is us at the theatre we went to see The Constant Wife it was fabulous! I was so chilled my Oura ring thought I’d napped - I didn’t it was too brilliant to sleep through!

Do you feel overwhelmed with everything that you need to do? It’s ok you’re not alone - yesterday I ran day 4 of my Courageous Leap programme and we were taming our overwhelm!
But not just in a practical sense, because overwhelm isn’t just about the amount we have to do. Mixed into that is how we create our experience of what we have to do and a whole host of insecure thoughts around our ability and the time we have.
That’s why I love the Coirageous Females programme because we dive deeply into this so you can untangle yourself and create the business you know you can create.
Door are now open for my March cohort in Northallerton. It’s fully funded for businesses registered in York and North Yorks but be quick because places are limited.

So excited to see you there! Link in bio

Hello Monday how are you? Are you raring to go or not sure what to start with first?
Sometimes it’s hard to know what to focus on - is what you are doing the right thing? How will you know if it pays off? Will you simply be wasting time or money?

Being a business owner can feel tough at times - the last weeks I’ve been having some amazing conversations with business owners on my Courageous Leap programme just about that.
One thing I love about it is that we all realise we are not alone. That you’re not the only one is is unsure, who overthinks or feels overwhelmed - and together we help you quieten down the noise so you can find that clarity and confidence.

Doors are now open for my next Courageous Females in March - it’s in Northallerton and is fully funded if your business is registered in York or North Yorkshire

Do you have a team? Have you signed up for our Live Lunch and Learn this Friday! It is one to get in your diary now!! (honestly!) Places are limited to the Live Session! It's fully funded!

I am so excited about this one, as our guest expert is none other than Professor Devine Charura MBE and he is exploring how we can all lead more with humanity.

I came across Devine when he was speaking on a Coaching Podcast, there were a number of guests and most of it was stuff I had heard before, and then he started speaking - to say he was inspiring was an understatement! His knowledge, expertise and his belief in the power of humanity blew me away.

This lunch and learn will definitely leave you with a renewed sense that good leadership is rooted in humanity, presence and real connection, being able to be more compassionate to your colleagues and team and with a renewed hope in the possibility that inclusive, ethical and compassionate cultures are achievable.

Now isn't that a great way to start the New Year????

What if having a great conversation was innate within you?
Ok so I know that may sound a little crass but I mean it - what if it wasn’t a skill you had to learn?

I’ve been coaching leaders now for over ten years and I’ve noticed something game changing about having conversations. When we get out of our head and let go of doing it ‘right’ we have a far better chance of having a great conversation.

I’ve lost count of the amount of times clients have said to me ‘I don’t know why I was worried because when I relaxed into the conversation just flowed’

As humans our deeper intelligence is very powerful, far more powerful that our chattering brain. When ee quieten the chatter and allow it to lead - we are calm, confident, curious - and the right questions and responses come to the fore.

That is why when Helen May and I were creating our Accredited Foundations of Coaching Award written for leaders who want to use a coaching approach we put the health of coach front and central - because your grounding, the understanding of how you work is key to being a great coach.

If you’d like to know more drop me a message, there maybe the opportunity of funding towards the cost.

This is undoubtedly one of my favourite programmes to run and is very dear to my heart!
Yesterday we kicked off The Courageous Females Programme in York and what an amazing group of female entrepreneurs and leaders.

Courageous females was initially borne out of the Rose Review into female entrepreneurship back in 2020 that highlighted lack of confidence, stress, overwhelm, lack of resilience and life balance were part of the obstacles that stood in the way of women starting and scaling at the same rate as men and adding £250bn of new value to the UK economy.

Since then hundreds of women and been through the programme, a massive thank you to Joseph Midgley Harriet L Stainton and the team at York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub for their support and we now have the New Era Reseach into Female Entrepreneurship by Enterprise Works at the University of York in partnership with Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) which confirms the desperate need for this type of support.

But the reason I love this programme so much is that it creates a safe space, without judgment for women to share - not in a negative way of how hard these barriers may be - but in a supportive, uplifting and empowering way, where honest conversations happen that quash that feeling of ‘it’s only me’ and where strong connections are made and knowledge shared.

And of course there’s a healthy dose of psychology so that they can understand more about how we contribute to create the barriers that stop us so that they can start to release their own potential.

What’s not to love??

Ps the bin is in the picture for a reason IYKYK you have to come on the programme to find out why!

Today is raising awareness about the impact depression and anxiety can have on individuals.

Depression, anxiety and other mental health struggles are often hidden. Hidden behind smiles, jokes, banter, ‘I’m fine’ and ‘don’t worry’ it’s often a private battle that is hidden amongst shame and isolation.

Social media doesn’t help. When we scroll we see smiling faces, achievements, success, a polished world of perfectionism - but it drives that feeling that you are the only one.

We live in a world where we’re told mental health is a constant state of positivity and happiness - but that’s a falsehood we ebb and flow like the tides - but when you’re struggling and life feels like a continual ‘ebb’ this toxic positivity can make you feel like you’re failing.

How do I know? I don’t share this glibly or as some kind of promotion but I’ve been there, it’s a dark horrible place that sucks you in, it’s lonely & frightening.

I feel blessed that I’m one of the lucky ones, my journey has allowed me to come from rock bottom and it’s why I do what I do, to help people not get to that point, to hold that space for them and guide them - because I wish I’d had that when I was burning out (although I wouldn’t be doing what I do now)

But what I do isn’t special. When we’re sinking we often just need that human to human connection. We don’t need fixing, or solutions, or to be told it will be ok. Just a safe space, where there is no judgement, no taking to heart what we’re saying, just someone to listen, to sit beside us.

I once listened to an amazing psychologist who talked about the meaning of ‘compassion’ and that it meant ‘to suffer with’ and how he would simply sit with those who were suicidal. No judgement, no fixing, just presence and how powerful that was.

I think we could all do that more - just be present for one another

Today is a reminder to check in with those who are near to you, not just today - everyday.

Do you have a hobby? I’ve been having a lot of conversations recently about ‘down time’ and I’ve noticed that

- often we get into the habit of not having downtime
- we confuse downtime with simply doing something else that is productive or has an element of contribution (like mowing the lawn or decorating)
- we innocently believe our downtime has to have a purpose, outcome or lead onto something entrepreneurial
- we think it ‘has to have a point’ - like getting fitter!

And often we find ourselves ‘giving’ during our downtime, for example like being with friends and we end up being the supporter.

Now I’m not saying that any of the above is wrong or that we shouldn’t do it. I love to garden, I love seeing friends and I love to crochet but they all ‘contribute’ in some way or I’m attaches to the outcome. I just noticed that rarely do we do things that

- have no purpose other than to do them
- where we’re not attached to the outcome
- they bring us simple joy simply by doing them.

A few months ago I took up abstract art and I’ve been challenging myself to keep it simply as a downtime pastime - I’m not going to lie it’s hard to not be concerned about what it looks like, am I wasting paint, there goes another canvas, will people like it or even if could I sell them 🤔

But it’s shown me how often we don’t have proper downtime - with no demands on us at all - either by ourselves or other people - I spent yesterday afternoon fiddling on, playing with paint, using far too many colours, making my shapes bigger - and letting go of any expectation! Five hours whizzed by so quickly I forgot to make tea 🤣 but it was so recharging, freeing and fun!.

So this Sunday I invite you to be curious, have some downtime, and see what happens!

26/05/2025

I used to believe that being a confident person meant that I also needed to be sorted and certain - there was no mess, I was in control, that I had all the answers and all the steps figured out.

But because there was mess, and uncertainty, and I certainly didn't have all the answers I felt like I wasn't enough, that there were areas in my life and career where I was failing - my head filled with self doubt my confidence ebbed away - and that confident person that I wanted to be seemed further and further away.

I was not alone, I see this time and time again with those who I work with, their role is to be the confident one, the one who has it all figured out, they are in control and they have a plan - and it's exhausting.

Like I did, they present as stressed, overwhelmed, and lacking self confidence and belief.

What is the answer? A simple, yet fundamental misunderstanding about how we work as humans - and what we've got going for us.

When was the last time you actually paused… and reflected?

Not to brain dump everything on your list.
Not because someone told you to ‘see where you are’.
But just to stop for a moment and notice—where am I, really?

I was reflecting on how impactful this can be after a client shared with me that…

‘Your coaching has completely changed the way I see challenges…
I’m responding so much more calmly now—my leadership feels stronger, clearer.’

And I thought—this is the bit we don’t talk about enough.

We’re so used to fixing things. Finding a solution, a strategy, the latest management or leadership theory.

But often real leadership often comes not from what know or apply.

It comes from

Pausing.
Taking a breath.
Stepping back just far enough to see things differently.
To connect with your own innate wisdom.

That’s what coaching with me creates— space, quiet, clarity.

Not because you’re broken. Not because something needs fixing.

But because we all need space to reconnect with ourselves sometimes.

And when we do—it changes everything.

So… when did you last stop and take time to connect?

P.s my view for this morning I’m waiting for my first client of the day - and giving them this exact opportunity.

Do we have more choice than we think?
Just a little thought experiment for your morning…

It’s something I talk about a lot with clients - especially when they’re edging close to burnout.
Because most of us are thinking non-stop.
Not always big, useful thoughts either - just this constant hum in the background.

No wonder we feel so worn out. Our minds are doing overtime.

But here’s the bit we often forget:
We don’t have to engage with every thought that passes through.

Things like:
“I’m stuck.”
“I’m so overwhelmed.”
“I’m too tired.”
“I’m not good enough.”
“I’m too old.”

They pop up so fast and feel so convincing.
But they’re often just old noise - not actually true, and definitely not helpful. They never make us feel better!

What if we could just notice them and let them drift on by?

Like waving on a bus you don’t want to get on … no need to jump in and go for the ride.

Even letting go of half the thoughts we usually latch onto could give us so much more space - more clarity, more calm, more capacity - more energy!

It’s a simple shift. But a powerful one.

What thoughts are you waving on by today?
